    摘要: A switch assembly for use in an environment requiring automatic switch operation under certain conditions, as when the switch assembly, or the body on which the switch is mounted, is tilted or changed in position beyond a predetermined amount. The assembly includes a housing in which is mounted the switch, preferably of the normally open type. A cavity is formed in the housing and has a point adjacent but spaced from the switch contact elements. Actuating means are disposed in the housing cavity and in one modification includes a magnetic member that moves away from the close adjacency to the switch contact elements when the housing is tilted beyond a predetermined amount. Thus, the switch opens until the magnetic member returns to its adjacent position, as when the housing is righted. In another modification, a magnetic member is fixed in the housing and magnetic-flux-deflecting means are pivotally mounted in the housing and in the cavity. As the housing is tilted, the deflecting means pivots into position between the magnetic member and the switch, thus deflecting the magnetic flux field. The magnetic attraction is removed and the switch opens,. When the housing is righted, magnetic flux is again established to the switch to close the switch contacts.

    摘要: A shunt is pivotally mounted to form a pendulum positioned between a reed switch and a magnet. The shunt is formed of ferromagnetic material and is mounted such that as long as it remains between the reed switch and the magnet the reed switch remains open. The shunt is held or biased between the magnet and the reed switch by the force of the magnetic attraction between the shunt and the magnet. The mass of the shunt acts as both a tilt sensor which responds to gravity and an accelerometer sensitive to crash-induced accelerations. The reed switch, magnet and shunt are mounted in a housing which positions the reed switch and magnet and controls the maximum range of motion of the pendulum-mounted shunt. An alternative embodiment employs a subassembly which includes a magnet, a shunt, and a selectively positioned mass, the subassembly is mounted to pivot over a reed switch. The magnet is positioned on or very near the pivot axis. The shunt is positioned further from the pivot axis toward the reed switch. Rotation of the subassembly about the pivot axis results in little displacement of the magnet but a large displacement of the shunt which allows the reed switch to be influenced by the magnet and close. The frequency response and sensitivity of the subassembly can be adjusted by positioning mass about the pivot axis so as to achieve a desired first and second moments about the pivot axis.

    摘要: A handgun sighting system that adjusts the intensity of a lighted front sight based on the ambient light conditions. A sighting rib on the handgun includes an electronic circuit having a power supply, a light emitting diode (LED), a photocell, and a reed switch. A holster for use with the sighting system includes a magnet therein. Return of the handgun to the holster brings the reed switch of the weapon in close proximity to the magnet and deactivates the LED and the electronic circuit. Withdrawal of the handgun from the holster activates the LED and the electronic circuit. The handgun sighting system automatically adjusts the intensity of the LED in accordance with changes in the ambient light conditions, as measured by the photocell, to provide an optimal sighting presentation for the shooter.
