Abstract: A system adapted to assisting patients manage asthma includes a wearable sensor for detection of asthma symptoms and inhaler use, having a microphone capable of generating an electrical signal indicative of asthma symptoms or inhaler use; a processor with firmware adapted to process the electrical signal to determine potential asthma symptoms and inhaler use; and store the electrical signal in the memory when the electrical signal potentially corresponds asthma symptoms or inhaler use. In particular embodiments, the system includes an electronic asthma diary including detected asthma symptoms and detected inhaler usage, both with timestamps, and a prescribed treatment protocol. Protocol firmware processes detected asthma symptoms an inhaler usage recorded in the asthma diary to determine if asthma is controlled, and if asthma is not determined controlled determines if a treatment change is authorized; if treatment change is authorized the treatment change is displayed in human-readable form.

Abstract: A method of attaching prosthetic implants to bone, applicable to tibia, patella, acetabulum, glenoid, or femur, includes trimming an articular surface of the bone, leaving a trimmed surface. Holes are punched or drilled into the surface in a predetermined array before polymethyl methacrylate bone cement is used to attach the surface to the implant. In an embodiment, the holes are punched by placing a punch-plate with sharpened punch spikes on the surface, and striking the punch plate to drive punches into the trimmed surface. In another embodiment, holes are drilled using a drilling template with predrilled guidance holes placed on the surface of the bone. In another embodiment, holes are drilled by positioning a robotic drill over the trimmed surface; adjusting a drilling pattern of the robotic drill according to the trimmed surface; and using the robotic drill to drill holes of predetermined depth according to the drilling pattern.

Abstract: Nucleic acid constructs, vectors, and recombinant cells harboring the nucleic acid constructs or vectors are disclosed. The nucleic acid constructs include genes encoding a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) and/or one or more transcription factors, optionally mutated. The transcription factors include those that mediate proinflammatory cytokine expression, e.g., T-bet, STAT1, or STAT4. Methods are disclosed of co-expression of the CAR and the transcription factor in a human or non-human immune cell, preferably human T cells. Also disclosed are methods for using these cells for immunotherapy, e.g., in treating cancer, infection, autoimmunity, allergy or inflammation diseases by the administration of a prophylactically or therapeutically effective amount of one or more of the nucleic acid constructs, vectors, and/or immune cells, e.g., human CAR-T cells, described herein.

Abstract: A device for detecting airborne contaminants includes a protonated, electrically conductive sensing material with affinity for binding with, and capable of being deprotonated by, the airborne contaminant. Electronics measure a property of the sensing material that is sensitive to deprotonation and generates signals indicative of the airborne contaminant. A method for detecting airborne contaminants includes: determining a property change of the protonated, electrically conductive material; and determining presence of the airborne contaminant based on the change. A system for detecting airborne contaminants includes: a data center in remote communication with multiple sensing devices each having: protonated, electrically conductive sensing material with affinity for binding with, and capable of being depronated by, an airborne contaminant, and electronics for relaying signals indicative of a sensing material deprotonation property to the data center; and wherein a user associated with a sensing device is notified of an abnormal level of the airborne contaminant.
