摘要: An electrode that is used for discharge surface treatment in which, with a compact molded from metal powders or a compact obtained by heating the molded compact as an electrode, pulsed electric discharge is generated between the electrode and a workpiece to form a film of an electrode material, or a film of substance that reacts with the electrode material on a surface of the workpiece by discharge energy. The electrode contains 90 weight percent or more of one of Zn powders, Sn powders, and Ni powders. By using such an electrode for discharge surface treatment, a Zn, Sn, or Ni film less likely to separate from the surface of the workpiece can be formed, and the film can be a phosphide or sulfide reaction film in lubricant containing phosphorus or sulfur.

摘要: In an electric discharge machining, in order to reduce damage of an object to be machined and an electrode and to achieve machining velocity enhancement and reduction of electrode wear amount by appropriately controlling a short-circuit current that flows when the electrode and the object to be machined are short-circuited, an electric-discharge-machining power supply apparatus for machining an object to be machined by interrupting every predetermined time period pulse trains that are turned on and off at predetermined timing, to supply electric power to a machining gap between a machining electrode (2) and the object (3) to be machined includes: a short circuit detecting means (11) for detecting a short circuit at the machining gap between the machining electrode (2) and the object (3) to be machined; and a pulse halting means (12) for, when the short circuit detecting means (11) detects a short circuit occurrence at the machining gap, halting generation of particular pulses in the pulse train so as to halt the power supply to the machining gap.

摘要: To form a thick coating by a discharge surface treatment, a voltage between an electrode and a workpiece during a discharge is detected, and it is determined that a discharge surface treatment state is abnormal if it is detected that the voltage is reduced. With this arrangement, it is possible to accurately detect an unstable phenomenon in the discharge surface treatment, and take appropriate measures before a state of the coating and a state of the electrode are worsened due to the unstable phenomenon. By discriminating a stability of the discharge surface treatment, the coating and the electrode are prevented from being damaged.

摘要: A wire cutting electric discharge machine has a high frequency voltage applying unit that applies a high frequency voltage and a direct current voltage applying unit applies a direct current voltage to the gap between the wire electrode and the workpiece. A detecting unit detects a low frequency component of a voltage occurring in the gap as a result of the electric discharge. The apparatus controls a feed rate based upon the state of the gap determined by the detecting unit.
