摘要： At least a portion of groove tracks in a information-data recording region of an optical recording medium comprises a plurality of groove portions separated by groove-absent portions in a rotational direction of the optical recording medium, each of the mark portions or each of the space portions includes one of the groove-absent portions. At least one of two groove tracks adjacent to prepit train, which is formed in land tracks, has a continuous groove portion or a groove-absent portion extending at least from a leading end to a trailing end of at least one prepit included in the prepit train in a rotational direction of the optical recording medium. The frequency band for separation of the groove tracks includes at least a portion of a frequency band of a modulated recording signal for recording information data on the optical recording medium.

摘要： An apparatus for recording information on a recordable optical disc by applying a light beam on the surface thereof, the disc includes a first recording area on which information is recorded and reproduced while the disc is rotated at a first linear velocity; and a second recording area on which information is recorded and reproduced while the disc is rotated at a second linear velocity. The first recording area includes a test recording area. The apparatus includes recording power determining unit for determining first optimum recording power for recording information on the first area by a test recording utilizing the test recording area, and for determining second optimum recording power for recording information on the second area by multiplying the first optimum recording power by a predetermined constant.

摘要： An optical disc capable of repeated recording, such as a DVD−RW, is applicable. An information recording and reproducing apparatus starts recording by making a sync pattern of recording data correspond to a recording reference position determined by an LPP formed on the disc at the time of recording new data on the disc. Afterward, the apparatus continues the recording by gradually shifting a position of the sync pattern of the recording data with respect to the recording reference position, and performs the recording with a shift quantity fixed to the predetermined shift quantity when the shift quantity thereof reaches a quantity equal to or larger than a predetermined quantity. Thereby, at a rewriting portion on the optical disc, the shift between recorded data and a recording start position of recording data for rewriting can be small, and establishing synchronization at the time of reproducing or rewriting can be stably performed.

摘要： A recording medium includes pairs of groove tracks and land tracks having periodically formed bent portion provided side by side on a substrate, a plurality of land prepits previously formed on the land tracks and carrying information about the groove tracks, and a recording layer formed on at least the groove tracks and the land tracks. The land prepits have a radius of mean curvature smaller than a radius of mean curvature of sides of the groove tracks in land-prepit absent regions of the land prepits and are defined by curved surfaces continuously extending from the sides of the groove tracks. Those sides of the groove tracks which face the continuous curved surfaces of the land prepits are curved surfaces that stricture the groove tracks. The depth of the land prepit is larger than that of the groove track.
