Abstract: Techniques for optimizing performance of narrowband Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) devices in a wireless wide area network (WWAN) are described. In one embodiment, a method includes providing a NB-IoT base station in an in-band deployment mode to operate within a WWAN. The NB-IoT base station is configured to use a physical resource block of the WWAN for communicating with a plurality of NB-IoT devices. The method includes causing a reduction of a power level for a transmission from an initial power level to a first reduced power level. The method includes obtaining parameters associated with performance and throughput for the WWAN and comparing the parameters to a quality threshold. Based on the comparison of the parameters to the threshold, the method includes determining whether or not to reduce the power level for the physical resource block from the first reduced power level to a second reduced power level.

Abstract: Techniques for identification and isolation of Internet-of-Things devices in an enterprise network are described. In one embodiment, a method includes detecting a plurality of devices having a first network interface to connect to a wireless wide area network and a second network interface to connect to an enterprise network. The method also includes identifying a first subset of the plurality of devices as Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices based on at least a detected repetition rate on a physical random access channel of a transmission made by a device of the plurality of devices. The method includes assigning the IoT devices to a separate network segment within the enterprise network.

Abstract: Presented herein are techniques for detecting establishment of a bearer associated with a communication session offloaded from a mobile carrier network to a wireless local area network, such as a Wi-Fi® network, and sending, from the mobile carrier network to the wireless local area network, an indication of a level of quality of service (QoS) to be applied to a segment of the communication session that is conveyed by the wireless local area network. The indication of the level of QoS may be passed via a network controller.

Abstract: Various implementations disclosed herein enable controlling access to networks. In various implementations, a method of controlling access to a network is performed by a computing device including one or more processors, and a non-transitory memory. In various implementations, the method includes obtaining an indication that a mobile device having access to a first network utilizing a first radio access technology (RAT) has requested access to a second network utilizing a second RAT. In some implementations, the method includes determining whether the access to the first network satisfies an authentication criterion associated with the second network. In some implementations, the method includes granting the mobile device access to the second network in response to determining that the access to the first network satisfies the authentication criterion associated with the second network. In some implementations, accessing the second network via the authentication criterion satisfies an operating threshold associated with the mobile device.

Abstract: An example method is provided in one example embodiment and may include requesting, by a user equipment (UE), a profile associated with a subscriber that provides information to facilitate automatic association of the UE with one or more access points of a wireless network, wherein the requesting includes requesting the profile using a Generic Advertisement Service (GAS) Initial Request frame; and sending the profile to the UE using a GAS Initial Response frame. The method can include configuring a Vendor Specific Information Element (VSIE) within an Advertisement Protocol Identifier for the GAS Initial Request frame and configuring the VSIE to indicate an Access Network Query Protocol (ANQP) query for the profile. The method can also include configuring another VSIE within an Advertisement Protocol Identifier for the GAS Initial Response frame and configuring the VSIE to indicate an ANQP query response including the profile.
