    摘要: A node in a computer network predefines a threshold number (Max) as the maximum number of allowed call set up messages (CSMs) to be processed from a plurality of sources by the network node, and predefines a time frame window as the time within which no more than the threshold number (Max) CSMs are accepted for processing by the network node. The node detects each new incoming CSM in the network node. The node rejects each new incoming CSM if the number of CSMs accepted for processing during the current time frame window equals the threshold number (Max). Otherwise, the node accepts each new incoming CSM that is not rejected. Also the node rejects each new incoming CSM if the number of CSMs currently being processed by the network node equals the threshold number (Max).

    摘要: A system and method are disclosed for verifying connection characteristics of a connection-oriented transmission pathway. A receiver of a network device is configured to receive a data stream from a source network device over the pathway. The data stream including a header portion and a data portion. In response to detecting the header portion, a processor of the network device counts a number of units of data received in the data portion and measures a time span over which the data portion is received. Then a transmitter of the network device sends a response data stream, including the count of the number of units received and the measured time span, to the source network device. The source network device determines an actual bandwidth of the connection-oriented transmission pathway using these values.

    摘要: A technique for permitting continued use of IP (Internet Protocol) routing protocols in an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network is implemented in each ATM system having route-computing responsibilities. When a call setup request is received, the routing system determines, from the ATM address of the target system, whether a routing protocol must be implemented. If a routing protocol must be implemented, data in an ACN (ATM Cluster Number) field and an HN (Host Number) field in the target ATM address is read and is imported into an IP-format address. This IP-format address is used in implementing the IP routing protocol.

    摘要: Asynchronous connection-oriented transmission network of the (ATM) network type comprising a plurality of switching nodes (12, 14, 16, 18) interconnected by connection lines, each of these switching nodes being associated with a control point in charge of determining the best route between any source node (12) and any destination node (18) when a connection has to be established therebetween by identifying which ones of the connection lines are eligible based upon the requirement of a quality of service. Such an ATM network is characterized in that each switching node comprises Control ATM Test Application (CATMTA)(22) and a Deamon ATM Test Application (DATMTA)(32) so that, at any time, a user interfacing a source node can test the connectivity of a network connection from the source node to a destination node by initiating a connection procedure wherein a call setup message is sent by the CATMTA of the source node to the destination node and the DATMTA of the destination node sends back an acknowledgment message to the source node.
