Abstract:
A flyback-type power converter having a secondary-side resonant circuit which shapes the current waveform in the secondary winding and secondary circuit to reduce the RMS current values therein is described. The shaping reduces conduction losses and improves conversion efficiency. With the resonant circuit, the energy stored in the transformer is transferred during the OFF-period in substantially a fixed time duration, enabling a fixed-OFF period operation mode. The converter may further have a primary-side resonant circuit for capturing and recycling the energy stored the leakage inductance of the primary winding, which is normally wasted in snubber circuitry.
Abstract:
A circuit for utilizing the magnetizing current in the transformer of a converter to reset the transformer's core and to provide a zero-voltage-switching condition on the converter's primary switch is disclosed. The power converter includes a transformer having a primary winding and a second winding, the secondary winding being coupled to an output load and a primary switch connected in series between the primary winding and a voltage source. The closing of the primary switch causes energy to be stored in the transformer and the opening of the primary switch causes the energy to be released from the transformer. The utilization circuit includes a series combination of a storage capacitor and a first switch coupled in parallel with one of the transformer's windings to capture the energy released from the transformer. The captured energy is used to reset the transformer's core and to create a zero voltage switching condition across the primary switch. A second switch means is connected in series with the secondary winding of the transformer and is operated to prevent the loading effects of the secondary from interrupting the creation of the zero-voltage switching condition.

In the method of the present invention for making a non-fat cream cheese product, microcrystalline cellulose is blended with a source of concentrated skim milk and is mixed to provide a slurry. The slurry is subjected to high pressure, high shear homogenization treatment so as to microfluidize the components of the slurry and provide a microreticulated microcrystalline cellulose dispersion having a high viscosity. The final cream cheese formulation is then prepared by adding skim milk curd to the microfluidized slurry and adding the remaining ingredients, including spices, flavors, starch and a gum, to provide the non-fat cream cheese product of the invention.

An acousto-optica converter fabricated on x-cut (LiNbO.sub.3 and having an optical waveguide extending along the y-direction. An interdigital transducer is oriented at 5.degree. with respect to the y-direction in order to compensate for the acoustic walk-off on such an orientation. Such as integrated acousto-optical converter allows multiple stages of such converters so as to provide for (1) two-stage zero-frequency shifted converters and filters, (2) lasers using an acousto-optic filter as a tuning element, (3) polarization-independent converters in which the modes are divided, separately polarization converted, and recobined according to frequency, (4) and wavelength division multiplexing routing switches capable of simultaneously switching multiple channels.

An apparatus for the continuous production of individual flexible products from a folded web of material, in particular, heat sealable thermoplastic material, is described having improved means for providing tension relief in such web material, and for tucking such web material outwardly from the surface of the product drum. The tuck rolls remain extended above the surface of the product drum throughout product drum rotation, and are retracted by cam arrangement to provide tension relief. Three alternative support assemblies and related cam arrangements are disclosed, two of which employ adjustable, compressible tuck roll support assemblies.
Abstract:
A process for forming chromium dioxide thin films which are receptive to high density magnetic recording. The process comprises depositing both chromium and oxygen on a substrate by evaporative techniques and concurrently bombarding the substrate with high energy ions of at least one of the film constituents to form a latent CrO.sub.x film forming layer. The process is carried out at approximately room temperature.The as-grown latent film forming layer is subsequently heat treated by a rapid thermal anneal step which raises the temperature of the as-grown film to about 500.degree. C. The rapid thermal anneal step preferably comprises a series of at least five separte pulses over a 10-second time span. After the rapid thermal anneal, the sample is rapidly quenched to room temperature.

Upon the adjustment of a control setting of a test instrument, the current data (taken before the change is effected) is manipulated by recalculating the trace data in light of any adjustment that is entered by a user. This represents an estimate of the effect of the adjustment in the control setting, and this estimate is redrawn on a display device. This modified image is preferably displayed before the real new image is ready to be displayed. This provides immediate feedback to the user so that adjustments can be effected without slowing the measurement process. Various embodiments provide panning or repositioning the trace left and right while changing the x-axis center frequency; stretching or compressing the trace (spanning) while changing the frequency span; or using a combination for adjustments to only the start or stop frequency. In one embodiment, the estimate can be displayed only after the user has committed to having a new measurement performed. Alternatively, in another embodiment, estimates can be displayed continuously while the user is making adjustments and before the user has committed to performing a new measurement. Having a test instrument display to the user an estimate of a future measurement while adjusting the control settings of the instrument in order to aid knob and button settings facilitates making adjustments visually during measurements which take longer than a fraction of a second. By having an immediate response on the display device, the user is not required to make blind changes.

A motion detection device such as a tachometer generator (10), is disclosed for the detection of the rotation of a body or shaft around an axis. The generator (10) includes a perforated disc (15) mounted on a shaft (8), and a sensing device (24) including a coil (25) and magnet (21) mounted in close proximity to the perforated disc (15). The disc (15) is made of a ferrous material. When rotated, the alternating holes (16,17) and webs (18) in the disc (15) produce an alternating current in the sensor (24), the frequency of which is proportional to the rotational speed of the disc. Any number of sensors (24) may be used and the disc (15) may have any number of holes (16,17). The signal developed by each or any sensor (24) is transmitted by wires (1,2) to a suitable indicating or recording device.

Apparatus for clamping and transferring to another location a stack of thermoplastic bags or the like wherein the bag walls have varying thicknesses. The apparatus preferably includes sets of clamping jaws for grasping the stack of bags. Each set comprises two pairs of the jaws. One pair is designed to rigidly clamp upon the stack while the other pair is spring-loaded or otherwise adjustable so that it can close differently than the first pair to compensate for the varying bag thicknesses even when the pairs of jaws are closed by the same drive mechanism. Each set of clamping jaws is independent of the other so that they can operate independently if one set were to jam.
