Abstract:
A method, system and program for notifying users when messaging sessions are recorded are provided. In response to receiving a request to record a messaging session, a requested selection of multiple message entries associated with the messaging session are recorded. Then, multiple users participating in the messaging session are notified of the recording of the requested selection of the multiple message entries from the messaging session. In particular, the output of the messaging session is adjusted for each of the multiple users to distinguish a selection from among the multiple message entries being recorded.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a computer-driven reservation system for reserving spaces in a parking facility at an airport terminal. The reservation system comprises a central server, a database of locations and associated plurality of spaces, which may be reserved for customer use, and one or more customer terminals on which is displayed a graphical user interface (GUI) for receiving a customer's reservation request and enabling other customer interactions. The central server, database and customer terminals are interlinked via a network. The central server includes a reservation utility that provides a reservation GUI and a printable reservation coupon with reservation information when a space is reserved. In one embodiment, central server comprises an auction utility that monitors the number of spaces available in a particular location and when the number falls below a predetermined number, implements an auction procedure for all of the remaining number of spaces. Each remaining space is then allocated to a highest bidder.
Abstract:
In a system where a central load distribution server at a publicized URL redirects requests for files to a number of content servers holding identical content on the basis of dynamically determined capacity utilization of those servers, clients are prevented from directly accessing one of the content servers without first being redirected from the central load distribution server. In the event that a client attempts to access one of the content servers without first having been redirected there from the load distribution server, the client is redirected to a page containing a notice of the error, then redirected yet again to the load distribution server. For browsers in which bookmark lists may be edited by the user, facilities are provided for correcting the bookmark entry that brought the user to the protected content server rather than to the central load distribution server. In this way, the tendency of users to unintentionally or intentionally circumvent traffic routing algorithms is substantially reduced and the risk of any one content server being overwhelmed with traffic is likewise reduced.
Abstract:
A method, program, and system for augmenting digital rights management are provided. The invention comprises associating two fields with an electronic document. The first field identifies the current owner of the electronic document, and the second field contains information about previous ownership of the electronic document. If ownership of the electronic document is transferred from the current owner to a subsequent owner, the current owner's name in the first field is replaced with the subsequent owner's name. In addition, information about the subsequent owner is added to the ownership history field.
Abstract:
Provided is a method, system, and program for transmitting information to a wireless device. A determination is made of a current location of the wireless device and whether the current location is within a proximity to a target location. If the current location is within the proximity to the target location, then information is transmitted to the wireless device on offerings available at the target location.
Abstract:
In the system, method, and program of the present invention, the browser renders a multimedia object to the screen. The multimedia object may be one or more advertisements having links to one or more advertisers. The browser periodically captures screen images having the multimedia object. In one embodiment, the screen images are captured at configurable time intervals. In another embodiment, the screen images are captured when there is a change in content of a screen image. Each screen capture contains the necessary link(s) to access the advertiser. The screen captures are stored, during a configurable duration of time, in a chronological list. A user can replay at a later time some or all of the stored screen images that were captured. The user will have various identifiable snapshots of the advertisements and access to the necessary links to get back to a desired advertiser.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for creating and automatically refreshing a composite web page. The present invention is a method, implementable in computer software, for selecting areas of interest from a plurality of web pages. The user creates a boundary around the areas of interest on each web page. The area inside the boundary, referred to as an information unit, remains visible while the area outside of the boundary becomes transparent. The user may then combine the plurality of information units together on a canvas web page. The user may then rearrange the information units on the canvas web page by dragging the information units to their intended destination. When the user has satisfactorily arranged the information units, the user may finalize the canvas web page into a composite web page. The invention may then refresh the composite web page automatically or upon user request.
Abstract:
A security server is provided to maintain security profiles for many customers. Customers are authenticated to the security server using a secret identifier, such as a password, or a digital signature. The customer can add, delete, and modify security images included with the customer's profile. In addition, the customer grants merchants or other requestors the right to retrieve one or more of the customer's security features. The authorized requesters are included in an authorization list. The customer restricts when the requestors can request the selected security features. When a requestor requests security features corresponding to a user, the requestor's identity is verified, such as using a digital certificate or an identifier. A check is also made to determine whether the customer has granted the requester access to the requested security features. The features are either returned to the requestor or an error is returned depending on the requestor's authorization.
Abstract:
A customer prints a ticket that includes customer security features that appear on the printed ticket. The features, such as a digital photograph of the customer, are checked by the merchant when the ticket is presented. If the security features do not match a ticket holder's features, the merchant denies admission to the ticket holder. The background area of the printed ticket contains a pattern to make it difficult for someone to insert other security features onto the ticket. The printed ticket includes a barcode that can be scanned by the merchant for fast retrieval of the purchaser's security features previously provided by the customer to the merchant. The retrieved security features are compared to both the ticket holder's features and the security features that appear on the printed ticket. A discrepancy during any of these comparisons enables the merchant to identify the imposter and deny admission.
Abstract:
A method, system and program for brokering and facilitating consumer projects in an electronic system are provided. A buyer submits a project request to a broker system. The broker system distributes the project request to multiple prospective manufacturers from among a catalog of manufacturers. Manufacturers submit bids and other indicators of the feasibility of manufacturing the project. The broker system facilitates obtaining a manufacturer who can feasibly manufacture the project request. The buyer selects a preferred manufacturer from among those obtained by the broker server, such that a buyer's project request is brokered to multiple manufacturers and a preferred manufacturer is then procured to produce the project.
