    Abstract: A heat exchange arrangement for use with chemically aggressive fluids has a source of direct current. Walls are provided which define a flow path for a fluid which is to undergo a temperature change, and at least a part of the walls is composed of a metallic material and connected to one of the terminals of the current source. The walls also form a chamber constituting a part of the flow path and having an opening which is closed by a cover. The cover is constituted as an electrode which is arranged in the flow path and is not in direct contact with the metallic part of the wall. This electrode is connected to the other terminal of the current source. The construction is effective for forming a protective coating on at least the metallic part of the wall when the current source is activated and fluid flows in the flow path. This protective coating prevents chemical attack of the metal by the fluid.

    Abstract: A drill-chuck body is rotatable about an axis and formed with a plurality of passages opening axially rearward at a rear face of the body and radially outwardly at windows in a side of the body. Jaws displaceable between front and rear positions in the passages each have a row of teeth exposed radially outwardly at the respective windows. A tightening ring rotatable about the axis is formed with an internal screwthread engaged at the windows with the teeth such that rotation of the ring moves the jaws between the front and rear positions. A tightening sleeve fitted around and coupled rotationally to the tightening ring extends axially rearward past the windows. This brace ring is radially inwardly engaged with the body and engages radially outwardly between the windows and the rear face with the tightening sleeve so as to coaxially center it on the body.

    Abstract: A chuck has a chuck body at least generally centered on a body axis and a collet in the hole and having an external screwthread. A ring axially nondisplaceable in the body has an internal screwthread engaging the screwthread of the collet and external gear teeth. The body is formed with a radially outwardly open cavity seat in which some of the teeth of the ring are exposed. A gear fitted in the seat meshes with the ring teeth and can rotate about a drive axis not parallel to the body axis to rotate the ring about the body axis. According to the invention a sleeve on the chuck extends axially across and covers the seat to retain the gear therein and is formed with a through going aperture through which a tool can fit to engage and rotate the gear.

    Abstract: A control valve that reduces noise and controls flow includes a slotted cylindrical skirt and/or a tapered metal ring. The metal ring has a tapered external surface for engaging a matching tapered bore within a valve housing. One embodiment is directed to a control valve including a housing defining a central orifice in fluid in communication with an inlet port and an outlet port, and a movable valve plug assembly having a skirt portion slidably engaged within the central orifice to control fluid flowing through the housing. The skirt portion defines a plurality of openings, which can be slots, to gradually control the flow of fluid through the housing while reducing cavitation. A method of controlling fluid flow in a process includes receiving fluids via an inlet port of a control valve, and controlling the flow of the fluid via a movable skirted valve plug with a plurality of tapered slots.
