    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel configured to modulate a first polarization component, a first viewing angle control panel including a first liquid crystal layer containing twisted liquid crystal molecules, a second viewing angle control panel including a second liquid crystal layer containing twisted liquid crystal molecules, and a polarization axis rotation element provided between the first viewing angle control panel and the display panel. A second polarization axis of a second polarization component which passed through the first viewing angle control panel is different from a first polarization axis of the first polarization component. The first substrate comprise first and second common electrodes, and a first pixel electrode including a pair of first sides arranged in a first direction. The second common electrode includes first and second trunk portions, and a first branch portion extending from the second trunk portion toward the first trunk portion. The first pixel electrode is located between the trunk portions. The first branch portion overlaps with the first pixel electrode between the first sides. A width of the first pixel electrode between the first sides becomes smaller toward the second trunk portion.

    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first substrate with a first alignment film, a second substrate with a second alignment film, and a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween. The first substrate has first and second electrodes. An initial alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer is parallel to a first direction or a direction orthogonal to the first direction.     Abstract: A pixel electrode formed into a slit structure with striped electrodes opposed to each other for a zero rubbing angle can provide fast response since rotational directions of the liquid crystals become opposite at both sides of the slit in the striped electrodes. The electrode structure, however, poses a problem of low transmittance.Provided is a liquid crystal display device of IPS-Pro scheme including a pixel electrode with one pair of striped electrodes. The first striped electrode includes a short electrode section and long electrode sections, and the second striped electrode also includes a short electrode section and long electrode sections. The long electrode sections of the first striped electrode are disposed adjacently to those of the second striped electrode. Liquid crystals are aligned in a lengthwise direction of the striped electrodes.
