    摘要: A seal apparatus is provided for use in a subterranean wellbore having a wellbore tubular disposed therein that defines a wellbore surface. A conveyance tubular is provided, which is positionable within the subterranean wellbore. A sealing ring is provided, and disposed about at least a portion of the conveyance tubular. The sealing ring has a first surface proximate the conveyance tubular and a second surface which is removed in distance from the conveyance tubular. The second surface defines a sealing surface, and includes a plurality of portions, with selected ones of the plurality of portions of the sealing ring extending radially from the conveyance tubular in at least one radial dimension. The selected portions define at least one metal seal point for selectively and sealingly engaging the wellbore surface. The seal apparatus is operable in a plurality of modes, including a running mode of operation and a sealing mode of operation. In the running mode of operation, the seal ring is maintained in a radially-reduced position, out of engagement with the wellbore surface. In the sealing mode of operation, the at least one metal seal point of the sealing ring is in sealing metal-to-metal engagement with the wellbore surface, providing a fluid-tight seal at a selected location between the conveyance tubular and the wellbore tubular. Also provided is an actuator member, which is selectively and remotely actuable, for urging the sealing ring between the running and sealing modes of operation.

    摘要: A lead-in guide assembly is shown for centralizing a downhole tool being run from a well surface within a well bore to a selected downhole location. The lead-in guide can be utilized as a seal assembly guide including a seal carrier provided with a leading end and a trailing end which is made up in a tubing string leading to the well surface. A collapsible guide is located at the leading end of the seal carrier for centralizing the seal carrier within the surrounding cased well bore as the seal assembly is being run into position above a cooperating sealing bore located at a downhole location. The guide means moves to a retracted position as the assembly moves within the cooperating sealing bore.

    摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus for anchoring of equipment within the interior bore of a section of a subterranean well conduit, and particularly for insertion of such equipment. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical housing and a conically tapered surface around the exterior of the housing which is radially larger at its upper end and tapered to a radially smaller lower end. A seal body is provided which is carried exteriorly around the housing and has its interior tapered end reverse to that of the conically tapered surface around the housing and which is selectively longitudinally movable relative to the housing from a first, unset position on the conduit section to a second, set position on the conduit section and radially expandable during the movement relative to the housing. Anchoring means are carried exteriorly around the body for securing the apparatus to the conduit section against upward and downward movement of the apparatus. A bi-directional anchoring system is provided such that force received on or through either end of the apparatus drives the apparatus into further anchoring engagement with the conduit section. A metal-to-metal primary and elastomeric secondary seal system are provided on the apparatus with the secondary elatomeric seal having zero extrusion and slip body having a ductility of from between about 1% and about 15%.

A setting tool initially connects the operating string within the liner and includes a plug carrying body at the lowermost extent. A top plug is releasably supported from the plug carrying body and a longitudinally spaced bottom plug is releasably supported from the top plug. A collet latch secures the top plug to the plug carrying body and a collet latch secures the bottom plug to the top plug. A shiftable sleeve positively locks the top plug to the plug carrying body until the collet latch securing the bottom plug is released.

    摘要: A steam generator is located downhole in a well for generating steam to cause viscous crudes to flow out adjacent wells. A packer is mounted above the steam generator. A connector box is located between the packer and the steam generator. An electrical cable extends alongside tubing into the well and into a window in the tubing located just above the packer. The cable extends through a passage in the packer and into the connector box. Feedthrough connectors in the connector box connect the power cable with lead wires extending upward from the steam generator. Cooling fluid passages in the packer allow circulation of cooling fluid from the surface to cool the components. The packer is hydraulically set by water supplied to the cooling fluid passages. A disk ruptures after the packer has been set to enable circulation of the cooling fluid.

    摘要: A slip gripping mechanism is shown for supporting a string of cylindrical conduit within the interior bore of a circumscribing conduit. An elongate body has a plurality of spaced longitudinal slots at one end. Vertically shiftable slips are carried in the slots by side edges which engage mating profiles formed in the slots. The slots form guideways for the slips for shifting the slips upwardly and outwardly relative to the body between a set position engaging the circumscribing conduit and an unset position. Each slip has an arcuate lower surface and a selected width to thickness ratio to allow controlled flexing of the slip in the direction of the circumscribing conduit as the slip moves to the set position.

    摘要: An equipment insert is shown for use within a section of well pipe. The equipment insert is installed within the pipe bore at the well surface. The equipment insert is run into the bore of the well pipe and manipulated with a hand tool to actuate gripping slips and a seal ring to grip the pipe interior bore and to form a seal with the interior bore of the section of well pipe. The section of well pipe containing the equipment insert can then be made up in the well pipe string, and the well pipe string can be run into the well bore for conducting well bore operations.
