Abstract: According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion, and a control portion. The image forming portion includes an image carrier, a charging device, and a cleaning device. The charging device includes a charging roller which contacts a surface of the image carrier. The cleaning device includes a cleaning blade, and an adjustment portion. The cleaning blade slidably contacts the surface of the image carrier. The adjustment portion adjusts a linear pressure of the cleaning blade exerted on the surface of the image carrier. The control portion executes, when a rate of increase of an outer layer resistance value of the charging roller caused by a decrease in the function of the cleaning blade is greater than or equal to a first rate, linear pressure adjustment control of controlling the adjustment portion to increase the linear pressure of the cleaning blade.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a storage unit and a charging amount acquisition unit. The charging amount acquisition unit forms a measurement toner image on the image carrier while changing the frequency of the alternating current voltage of the development bias with the potential difference in the direct current voltage between the developing roller and the image carrier being kept constant, acquires a tilt of a measurement straight line representing a relationship between the change amount of the frequency and the density change amount of the measurement toner image, based on the change amount of the frequency and a result of detecting density of the measurement toner image in the density detecting unit, and acquires a charging amount of the toner included in the measurement toner image formed on the image carrier based on the acquired tilt of the measurement straight line and the reference information in the storage unit according to the toner density detected by the toner density detecting unit.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus has an image carrier, an electrifying member, and a charge eliminating device, and eliminates remaining charge on the surface of the image carrier by the charge eliminating device. The charge eliminating device includes a discharge member. The discharge member includes an electro conductive knit fabric knitted in a cylindrical shape using twisted yarn made of twisted metal fibers and a support member having a cylindrical shape and inserted in the electro conductive knit fabric, and is disposed to face the image carrier in a noncontact manner. A magnet member is disposed inside the image carrier within a charge elimination nip width between two tangential lines of an outer circumference surface of the discharge member, the two tangential lines being parallel to a straight line passing through a rotation center of the image carrier and a center axis of the discharge member.

Abstract: A discharging member includes an electrically conductive knit fabric, a support member, and a first magnet member. The conductive knit fabric is knitted into a cylindrical shape with use of yarn formed by twisting together a plurality of metal fibers. The support member is cylindrical shaped and inserted in the conductive knit fabric. The first magnet member is placed inside the support member. Abstract: A developing device includes a housing, a developing roller, a developer stirring member, and a layer thickness regulating member. The developing roller includes a stationary magnet and a sleeve. The stationary magnet includes a first magnetic pole having a specific polarity, and a second magnetic pole lying downstream of the first magnetic pole and having the same polarity as the first magnetic pole. In an entire inter-pole region between the first magnetic pole and the second magnetic pole, the stationary magnet produces a magnetic force including a horizontal component that keeps the specific polarity and has a value greater than zero (mT). The inter-pole region includes a flat area where a horizontal magnetic force component having a minimum absolute value exits and the horizontal magnetic force component changes within a range of 0.5 (mT) or less, the flat area extending over a range of 10 degrees or more.

Abstract: A developing device includes a developing roller, a conveyor roller, a developer stirring unit and a development bias applying unit. The developing roller is arranged to face a photoconductive drum at a predetermined developing position and supplies the toner. The conveyor roller is arranged to face the developing roller at a predetermined facing position and supplies the developer to the developing roller. The development bias applying unit applies development biases to the first sleeve of the developing roller and the second sleeve of the conveyor roller during a developing operation of developing the electrostatic latent image on the photoconductive drum with the toner. The development bias applying unit applies the development biases such that a shifting electric field to move the toner on the first sleeve of the developing roller toward the second sleeve of the conveyor roller is formed at the facing position during the developing operation.

Abstract: A photosensitive drum is axially rotatable and has a surface on which an electrostatic latent image is formed. A developing device includes a development roller spaced from the photosensitive drum. Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, a developing device, a bias applying unit, a leakage detecting unit, a bias control unit and a leakage detection control unit.
