    摘要: A wound closure device has internal and external components designed to close, shrink or approximate an open wound. The internal component preferably comprises sachets filled with highly absorbent material such as carboxymethylcellulose, disposed at the surface of the wound bed to absorb exudate from the wound. The external components preferable include paddles that adhere to the skin, and form part of, or have a mechanism to couple to an elastic tensioning fabric. The internal component is placed between the open wound and the elastic tensioning fabric, such that expansion of the internal component applies pressure on the wound base. It is contemplated that the two components will work synergistically together to create ‘micro-deformation’ forces that stimulate granulation tissue.

    摘要: An intervertebral disc is provided having an upper plate, a lower plate, and a core. The upper and lower plates include outer vertebral body contacting surfaces which are provided with attachment enhancing features to ensure bone integration. The attachment enhancing features shown include one or more fins, serrations and teeth. An opposite surface of the plates from the vertebral body contacting surfaces is formed with a recess which serves as a bearing surface for the core. In order to form an intervertebral disc with a lower disc height, at least one of the recesses is provided opposite a corresponding dome shaped portion on the vertebral body contacting surfaces. This allows the plates to be formed with a thinner profile for a smaller overall disc height. In addition to providing a lower overall height to the artificial disc, the dome shaped portion of the plates also provides a more anatomically shaped outer vertebral body contacting surface.

    摘要: The invention concerns an intervertebral prosthesis placement instrument which can be used to facilitate accurate positioning of a spinal disc prosthesis between adjacent spinal vertebrae. The instrument (10) has opposed jaws 12 formed with tips (24) that are shaped for insertion between the vertebrae. The jaws can be moved apart from one another to distract the vertebrae, allowing the prosthesis to enter between the vertebrae. The jaws also have opposed surfaces which are shaped to embrace the prosthesis between them and to guide the prosthesis into position.

    摘要: The invention concerns a digital joint arthroplasty (10). The arthroplasty has a stemless, unitary body having opposite sides (12, 14) at least one of which is formed with a curved concavity shaped to receive, in articulated manner, a bone end in an MCP, PIP or DIP joint. In some embodiments, both of the opposite side surfaces are concavely curved while in other embodiments, only one side surface (12) is so curved, the opposite surface (40) being flat. In use the arthroplasty is installed between the shaped ends of bones which meet at the MCP, PIP or DIP joint. The absence of stems means that the installation of the arthroplasty is less surgically invasive than is the case with conventional arthroplasties having inter-medullary stems.
