Abstract: A display system includes a conversion apparatus converting video luminance including a luminance value in a first luminance range and a display apparatus connected thereto and displaying the video. The conversion apparatus includes a first acquisition unit, a first luminance converter, a second luminance converter, a quantization converter, and an output unit outputting a third luminance signal to the display apparatus. The display apparatus includes: a second acquisition unit acquiring the third luminance signal and setting information indicating display settings recommended to the display apparatus in display of the video; a display setting unit setting the display apparatus, using the setting information; a third luminance converter converting a third code value indicated by the third luminance signal into a second luminance value compatible with a second luminance range, using the setting information; and a display controller displaying the video on the display apparatus based on the second luminance value.

Abstract: An encoding method which allows reduction in the amount of codes is provided. The encoding method includes: setting step S11 for setting a quantization matrix set; quantization step S12 for performing quantization on a target block using the selected quantization matrix; and encoding step S13 for encoding, in a mutually associated manner, the target block which has been subjected to the quantization and identification information for identifying the quantization matrix set which has been set. In setting step S11, a quantization matrix set selected from a plurality of quantization matrix sets is set as the quantization matrix set to be used to perform the quantization on the target block, the plurality of quantization matrix sets including a custom quantization matrix set which is arbitrarily specified and a plurality of defined quantization matrix sets which have been respectively defined in advance.

Abstract: A method to be performed by a playback device includes determining whether the playback device has a function for converting first graphics in a second luminance range narrower than a first luminance range to second graphics in the first luminance range, when the playback device has the function, converting the first graphics to the second graphics, and displaying a video in the first luminance range with the second graphics being superimposed on the video, and when the playback device does not have the function, displaying the video with third graphics different from the second graphics being superimposed on the video.

Abstract: A conversion method for converting luminance of a video, including a luminance value in a first luminance range, to be displayed on a display apparatus includes: acquiring a first luminance signal indicating a code value obtained by quantization of the luminance value of the video; and converting the code value indicated by the acquired first luminance signal into a second luminance value determined based on a luminance range of the display apparatus, the second luminance value being compatible with a second luminance range with a maximum value smaller than a maximum value of the first luminance range and larger than 100 nit. This provides the conversion method capable of achieving further improvement.

Abstract: In a converting method for converting luminance of an input video in order to display the video on a display device, the luminance of the video is a first luminance value in a first luminance range where a maximum luminance value is defined as a first maximum luminance value that exceeds 100 nit. The method includes acquiring a first luminance signal indicating a first luminance value of the video, selecting a luminance converting process to be executed from among a plurality of luminance converting processes based on a reference luminance value corresponding to reference reflectance included in first meta data of the acquired first luminance signal, converting the first luminance value indicated by the acquired first luminance signal into a second luminance value in a second luminance range where a maximum luminance value is defined as a second maximum luminance value that is smaller than the first maximum luminance value and larger than 100 nit based on the selected luminance converting process.
