The transfer nip portion includes a pressure-contact nip and a contact nip. A length of the contact nip is smaller than half a length of the pressure-contact nip in the rotational direction of the transfer roller.

The method includes performing the control such that after finishing of transfer of the developer image onto intermediate transfer medium, application of the dispersant collecting liquid on the intermediate transfer medium is started by the dispersant collecting liquid application unit.

It is preferred that the insulation liquid further contains fatty acid monoester. Further, it is preferred that the amount of the fatty acid monoester contained in the insulation liquid is in the range of 5 to 50 wt %.
