摘要： This invention relates to a printing apparatus and printing method which can stably print at high image quality on print media of various sizes by using a full-line printhead. The printing method uses a full-line printhead which has a long printing width and is configured by arraying a plurality of substrates each prepared by arraying a plurality of printing elements and each having a given printing width. When printing is done by conveying a print medium in a direction different from the array direction of the printing elements having the long printing width, printing elements used for printing are selected in accordance with an input image printing width so that an area printed on the print medium by printing elements corresponding to the connected portions between the substrates becomes a visually least perceivable area on the print medium. The relative moving amount of the full-line printhead to the print medium is so determined as to print by using the selected printing elements. The relative position of the full-line printhead is moved by the determined relative moving amount, and printing is done using the selected printing elements at the position after movement.

摘要： A color filter manufacturing apparatus can manufacture a color filter with less color unevenness in a short period of time. The color filter manufacturing apparatus forms an array of colored portions of a color filter by discharging a plurality of inks from a plurality of discharge orifices at a predetermined density by using an ink-jet head having a plurality of discharge orifices, an ink chamber connected to the plurality of discharge orifices, an ink supply opening for supplying ink to the ink chamber, and an ink exit opening for exiting ink from the ink chamber. The color filter manufacturing apparatus comprises an ink flow generating device for generating a flow of ink from the ink supply opening to the ink exit opening in the ink chamber while discharging ink from the discharge orifices for coloring. The colored portions are formed when a variation rate of ink volume discharged from the plurality of discharge orifices for forming the array of colored portions is ±3% or less.

摘要： A color-filter manufacturing method which manufactures a color filter where occurrence of color mixture and colorless portion(s) are prevented while improving ink-arrival precision in applying ink onto a substrate. The method manufactures a color filter by discharging ink from an ink-jet head IJH on a substrate 53 so as to color respective pixels with a plurality of discharge ink. When ink I2 discharged from the ink-jet head IJH is applied not in the form of ink droplet but in the form of pillar onto the substrate 53, the ink I2 is applied at a position within a pixel, where the ink I2 is to mix with previously-applied ink I1.

In this case, pieces of data in the threshold value matrix are arrayed such that average values in the respective rows and average values in the respective columns are almost the same value. If such a threshold value matrix is used to perform the error diffusion process, the dot sparseness and denseness do not occur with a period of the matrix, and therefore the pattern or sweeping phenomenon specific to the error diffusion can be suppressed.
