Abstract:
A packet data serving node (200) that receives (101) from a mobile station (408) that already has an existing home agent-facilitated data session an indication of a present need to conduct an interactive real-time session is able to establish (102) a non-home agent-facilitated interactive real-time session for that mobile station notwithstanding and apart from the existing home agent-facilitated data session. By one approach this can comprise treating traffic as corresponds to the non-home agent-facilitated interactive real-time session as simple Internet Protocol traffic while treating traffic as corresponds to the existing home agent-facilitated data session as mobile Internet Protocol traffic. If desired, different Internet Protocol address can be used to facilitate such treatment alternatives. By one approach, the aforementioned packet data serving node assigns the Internet Protocol that the mobile station uses in conjunction with the non-home agent-facilitated interactive real-time session.
Abstract:
A base transceiver station in a mobile communication system, includes a GPS time frequency unit for outputting a synchronized time which is received from at least one GPS satellite and frequency information; a BTS main processing unit for generating a control command to control one BTS; an ATM interface unit for interfacing with an asynchronous mode communication device; a packet routing unit for providing routing information used for setting path of packet data; a multi-rate channel unit for processing an inter-channel communication, each channel having a different data rate; a signal transformation unit for transforming and modulation/demodulation of an input signal; and a wireless unit for wireless communication with a mobile station.
Abstract:
A network element can monitor (105) communication resource usage by, for example, a first end user. A determination (106) can then be had as to whether this first end user's communication resource usage exceeds a predetermined individual level of usage for that first end user (as distinguished, for example, from an upper limit as might be generically applied across an entire user population). When the first end user's communication resource does exceed this predetermined individual level of usage, automatic limitations regarding the first end user's communication resource usage can be imposed (108) while nevertheless continuing to facilitate the end user's communication resource usage.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for aggregating power from multiple sources generates a single direct current regulated voltage. The apparatus comprises a plurality of slave voltage converters and a master pulse width modulator circuit. Providing a plurality of direct current power sources, current is drawn through a plurality of lines connected to the plurality of direct current power sources. An open circuit voltage for each direct current power source is unknown. Each line of the plurality of lines has a line resistance. The line resistance of at least some of the plurality of lines may be unknown. The line resistance of at least some of the plurality of lines is large. The single direct current regulated voltage is generated from the drawn current.
Abstract:
An enclosure has a set of panels forming an outer peripheral skin. A heat exchanger wall is placed within the panels. A first fan arrangement circulates ambient air into a space within the panels and along the exterior surface of the heat exchanger wall and back into the environment. A second fan arrangement circulates air contained within the enclosure against the interior surface of the heat exchanger wall. Heat is transferred through the heat exchanger wall to the ambient air circulated by the first fan. An inner wall is placed adjacent to the interior surface of the heat exchanger wall. The space between the inner wall and the heat exchanger wall forms a space for the air within the interior of the enclosure to circulate by the second fan. The heat exchanger wall provides a barrier isolating the ambient air from the air within the enclosure, preventing dust, humidity and pollutants to enter into the interior of the cabinet in the space surrounding the electronic components.
Abstract:
A network element (140) uses a non-volatile memory (150) to store indicia of reboots. The indicia of reboots are communicated over a network to a network manager (110). The network manager (110) compares the indicia of reboots and a prior indicia of reboots to assess whether a network element (140) has rebooted. The network elements preferably store a count of reboots as the indicia.
Abstract:
A wireless access gateway (70) obtains (11) substantially current information regarding its own performance capacity. That information is communicated to a network element (90). In a preferred approach, the wireless access gateway integrally combines (12) the substantially current information with at least one call management message to provide a composite message, which composite message is then transmitted (14). The network element then preferably automatically makes determinations (82) regarding selection of a particular wireless access gateway to support a given call as a function, at least in part, of the substantially current information regarding wireless access gateway performance capacity.
Abstract:
A system and methods are shown for providing Internet Protocol communication services to a mobile client. One method includes sending a registration request from a radio node to a control node responsive to detecting a mobile client in a service area of the radio node. When the control node receives the request from the radio node, the control node determines a foreign agent to provide communication services to the mobile client. In one embodiment, the control node determines the foreign agent based on a mobile client information record, a radio node record, and a plurality of foreign agent records associated with the radio node. In one embodiment, the control node may select a last serving foreign agent associated with the mobile client. Alternatively, if the control node selects a different foreign agent than the last serving foreign agent, the control node sends a registration update message to the last serving foreign agent so that the last serving foreign agent may terminate any communication sessions associated with the mobile client.
Abstract:
A network element (20), such as a PDSN or home agent, upon determining (11) a need to effect a call management operation, then determines (12) whether to constrain the facilitation of that call management operation. When determining that the call management operation should be constrained, the network element can facilitate (14) that call management operation while imposing an artificial facilitation constraint. For example, the rate at which the call management operation is executed with respect to a plurality of existing calls can be specified.
Abstract:
A system and methods are shown for providing packet data serving node (PDSN) redundancy. One exemplary method includes providing an access node with a plurality of packet data serving nodes and at least one system manager, establishing an N to 1 redundancy of active to standby PDSNs. Upon establishing a communications session with a mobile node, each active PDSN provides state updates to the standby PDSN including only non-recoverable data. Upon failure of any active PDSN, the standby PDSN reassigned as an active PDSN replacing the failed unit and assuming the communications session with the mobile node. The remaining active PDSNs are notified of the reassignment and transmission of updated state data is discontinued.
