Abstract:
A nozzle assembly includes an inner tubular member having a closed end and an opposed open end for receiving a fluid from a source, at least one outlet extending radially through the inner tubular member proximate the closed end, wherein the closed end is configured for insertion into a bore defined by a sidewall in a work piece. The nozzle assembly further includes a slidably movable outer sleeve, having a distal end, disposed around the inner tubular member, wherein the distal end is configured for contact with an exterior edge portion of the bore. The outer sleeve is normally biased to a first position sealing the at least one outlet from the exterior, and slidably movable to a second position unsealing the at least one outlet upon contact with the edge portion of the bore as the closed end of the inner tubular member is inserted into the bore.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the sizing of a shaped extended element having a longitudinal axis and including lateral surfaces extending substantially parallel to the axis. The apparatus includes a wheel rotatable about an axis. The wheel includes at least one planar ring-shaped surface extending perpendicular to the axis of the wheel and centered on the surface. The ring-shaped surface cooperates with the lateral surface of the shaped elongated element during a displacement of the wheel relative to the element along an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the element. A coating device is adapted to deposit, at least on the outer circumference of the wheel a sufficient amount of glue for allowing a sizing of the lateral surface of the shaped element.

A method and apparatus for the sizing of a shaped extended element having a longitudinal axis and including lateral surfaces extending substantially parallel to axis. The apparatus includes a wheel rotatable about an axis and with the wheel including at least one planar ring-shaped surface extending perpendicular to the axis of the wheel and centered on the surface. The ring-shaped surface is adapted to cooperate with the lateral surface of the shaped elongated element during a displacement of the wheel relative to the element along an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the element. A coating means is adapted to deposit, at least on the outer circumference of the wheel a sufficient amount of glue for allowing a sizing of the lateral surface of the shaped element.
Abstract:
In an apparatus for applying a protective substance to a welding seam of a metallic sleeve, including a frame, a container disposed within the frame holding a protective substance, a drivable applicator roller disposed in the container at least in part contact with the protective substance and applying the protective substance to the seam of the metallic sleeve within a substance transfer region, and wherein the sleeve moves towards, past and away from the applicator roller, comprising in combination therewith, a stripper disposed within the transfer region on each side of the seam removing any excess substance leaking away laterally from the seam.
Abstract:
A sealant applicator for applying a sealant to the countersink portion of a rivet bore in a workpiece includes an applicator head, a sealant supply, and a drive unit for moving the applicator head between the countersunk surface and the sealant supply. A sealant dauber is rotatably and adjustably mounted on the applicator head and is driven by a motor, also mounted on the head. A flexible applicator tip is fitted to one end of the dauber for receiving sealant from the sealant supply and applying it to the countersink surface. The sealant is supplied to the applicator tip from a reservior having an opening in which is located a sealant permeable member. Sealant is supplied to the reservoir from a sealant cartridge. A predetermined amount of sealant is passed through and is maintained above the permeable member before the applicator tip contacts the permeable member. When the applicator tip engages the permeable member a bead of sealant attaches to the tip. As the rotating applicator tip is removed from the reservoir opening, the sealant is sheared from the central portion of the permeable member, leaving a uniform annular bead of adhesive that is precisely positoned on the applicator tip. The applicator tip is then inserted in the rivet bore so that the tip surface engages the countersink surface and transfers the sealant to the countersink surface. The drive unit moves the applicator head, and thus the applicator tip, sequentially between three locations: a standby location wherein the tip is positioned adjacent and above the rivet bore; a workpiece engagement location wherein the tip engages the rivet bore; and a supply location wherein the tip engages the permeable member in the reservoir.
Abstract:
Drums are supported for rotation on idler rollers carried by an intermittently operable conveyor, and when the drums reach a predetermined position in which their longitudinal axes are aligned with telescopically movable coating material applicator heads the conveyor movement of the drums is stopped and an overhead assembly is moved downwardly into engagement with the drum shells to hold them down and rotate them while the coating applicator heads move inwardly and outwardly of the shells.
