Abstract: A fluid diverter controls water flow through a faucet assembly which includes a spout and a handspray. The diverter includes a housing and a shaft mounted therein for reciprocal movement, with a piston and a cup valve mounted on opposite ends of the shaft. When water is supplied to the faucet assembly and the handspray is turned off, water pressure builds up within a first compartment of the diverter between the piston and the cup valve such that the cup valve is moved off its seat to establish water flow through a first outlet passageway to the spout. When the handspray is operated, water from the interior of the diverter flows through a second outlet passageway leading to the handspray, and also into a second compartment on the opposite side of the piston. A differential pressure is achieved between the two compartments by providing a notch of a selected size in an annular rim portion of the housing at the second outlet passageway. The size of the notch is made sufficiently large so that particle contaminants pass easily through the diverter.

Abstract: A diverter-type mixing valve has a body formed with a chamber having opposite ends, a mixed-water feed passage opening into the chamber between its ends, a faucet outlet port opening into the chamber at one end thereof, a vent port opening into the chamber at the other end thereof, a diverter port also opening into the chamber at the other end thereof, and a restriction in the chamber between the feed passage and the ports at the other end. Mixed water is supplied under pressure to the feed passage. A diverter valve in the chamber directs flow from the feed passage out the faucet port when pressure between the restriction and the other end is greater than pressure between the restriction and one end and directs flow from the feed passage to the diverter port when pressure between the restriction and one end is greater than pressure between the restriction and the other end. A one-way vent valve in the vent port only permits flow through the vent port into the chamber and a one-way check valve associated with the diverter port only permits flow through the diverter port out of the chamber.

Abstract: A two piece aspirator is constructed to be fitted within a fitting such that an annular clearance is provided between the bore that has two supply inlets and a depending cylindrical section of the aspirator body. A venturi cap member is snap fitted onto the aspirator body and has an outer periphery axially spaced from the end of the cylindrical section to provide an annular opening thereabout which is in communication with a passage through the aspirator body. The venturi or cap has a radial section which spans most of the interior of the cylindrical section and has a frusto-conical section which is complementary to a tapered end of the cylindrical section to provide for a radially extending section of the passageway leading to the annular opening. The passage of water through the annular clearance passing by the annular opening provides a venturi effect and therefore negative pressure resulting in air being sucked through the shower riser when water flows through the tub spout downstream of the fitting and through the passage and annular opening.

Abstract: A small, reliable diverter valve that maintains a relatively constant flow through a spray nozzle in spite of water supply pressure fluctuations and that positively terminates flow from the faucet spout during hand spray operation. Abstract: A fountain device selectively produces either a spray or a stream of water when used with a hose. The device includes a hollow body portion which has a water inlet formed at one end thereof. The body portion includes a water exit surface formed with both a plurality of small water exit ports and a large water exit port therein. A flow selecting valve is provided which has three states: an off state in which no water flows through the body portion, a spray producing state in which water flows through the body portion and exits therefrom through the plurality of small water exit ports, and a stream producing state in which water flows through the body portion and exits therefrom through the large water exit port.
