    摘要: A powerline network switch apparatus is coupled to a first datasource connection. The apparatus has a second datasource connection, which is coupled to the first data source connection. The apparatus also has a powerline device coupled to the second datasource connection. Preferably, the powerline device is adapted to receive and transmit information in a first format from the second data source connection and adapted to receive and transmit information in a second format. The apparatus also has a virtual local area network device including a first input/output port and a plurality of second input/output ports. Each of a plurality of modem devices is coupled respectively to one of the plurality of second input/output ports and each of the plurality of modem devices also being coupled to one of a plurality of power lines, capable of communicating information to and from the second data source connection.

    摘要: A system for communications on a bi-directional medium includes a first repeater, a second repeater, a third repeater and a fourth repeater, each of which is coupled to the medium. The first repeater and the second repeater communicate with each other on a first band for transmission from the first repeater to the second repeater, and on a second band for transmission from the second repeater to the first repeater. The second repeater and the third repeater communicate with each other on a third band for transmission from the second repeater to the third repeater, and on a fourth band for transmission from the third repeater to the second repeater. The third repeater and the fourth repeater communicate with each other on the second band for transmission from the third repeater to the fourth repeater, and on the first band for transmission from the fourth repeater to the third repeater.

    摘要: A spread spectrum meter reading system enables the use of high power frequency hopping spread spectrum (HPSS) transmissions at both the encoder transmitter and repeater levels of the meter reading system. A plurality of end point encoder transmitter devices are each connected to a utility meter and transmit high power FHSS signals containing at least metering data for the corresponding utility meter. A plurality of intermediate transceiver units that are fewer in number than the number of end point encoder transmitter devices both receives and retransmits the high power FHSS signals. A base station includes a receiver that receives the high power FHSS signals. Preferably, the base station can receive the high power FHSS signals from both the encoder transmitter devices and the intermediate transceiver units and the intermediate transceiver units aggregates metering data from multiple encoder transmitter devices prior to block retransmission of the metering data to the base station. Preferably, the high power FHSS signals are transmitted at a maximum hopping rate of at least one minute per hop to reduce power consumption and increase battery life of the devices.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving RF signals for broadband communications using power lines as communication medium. A super-heterodyne structure is used to translate the signals from one frequency to another so as to avoid interference sources, which may corrupt the communication signals. In the heterodyne structure, a plurality of local oscillators are used to mix the local oscillator signals with the communication signals for frequency translation. A plurality of frequency filters are used to filtered out unwanted signals. The communication signals are imparted onto or received from the power lines via couplers operatively connected to modems.
