摘要： A new illuminated signal to following vehicle drivers is disclosed. This signal would inform the driver of the following vehicle that the driver of the lead vehicle had removed accelerator pedal pressure. The following vehicle driver may anticipate the deceleration and braking of the lead vehicle. So fore-warned, the driver of the following vehicle may also remove accelerator pressure, preventing the following vehicle from inappropriately approaching the rear of the lead vehicle, and the need for heavy brake action. This advance warning of lead vehicle deceleration and braking will decrease the reaction time needed by following vehicle drivers to safely brake after the lead vehicle brake light is observed, reducing the potential for rear-end collisions. This new light signal, indicating removal of accelerator pedal pressure in the lead vehicle, would cease whenever the lead vehicle brake is applied, or the cruise control is switched on.

The school bus comprises a plurality of emergency exits. One or more sensors detect when an emergency exit is open. In one embodiment, the monitor additionally identifies which of the emergency exits are open.

A plurality of fiber-optic cables have environmentally securing end connectors. Fiber-optic cable tap devices function to extract a specific percentage of the light transmitted through a fiber-optic cable to a side outlet for distribution among a plurality of emitting apertures performing similar lighting functions. Light emitting apertures with light diffusion and control from the entering beam to the full area of the light emitting aperture is accomplished through lenses and/or critical angle reflectors.

The device has an electromagnetic generation mechanism for generating a high intensity, low diffusing, electromagnetic beam and a projection mechanism for securing the electromagnetic generation mechanism to the vehicle. The method of projecting the beam outward, downward, and perpendicular to the vehicle, parallel to a predetermined perimeter location provides the driver a precise visual indication of the perimeter location relative to other vehicles or obstacles. In one embodiment, the electromagnetic generation mechanism is a plurality of lasers in a phased-array projection mechanism that produce a line of beams, in the visible light spectrum, over a wide area.

摘要： A rearview mirror with lighting assembly for use in a vehicle, has a molded case adapted to support lights for illuminating portions of the vehicle interior, to support electrical switches, wiring, and electrical connectors, to support optical lenses for directing light, and to support a mirror element. The case includes ventilation around the lenses, past the lights, and out of the case for dissipating heat from the lighting. The electrical switches and connectors are mounted into the case. A preferred light arrangement provides illumination of areas below and outwardly of the case ends with targeted lighting areas in the lap areas of persons seated in the front seats of the vehicle, without allowing light to be directed toward the vehicle windshield or instrument panel to cause glare. A resilient sealing material is adhered to the back of the lens element for sealing with the case to prevent or minimize the emission of uncontrolled, stray light from the case. The sealing material is preferably adhered to the mirror element by an adhesive carrier layer which preferably also provides an antiscatter function for the mirror element in the event of breakage.
