摘要: Laminate papers for use in decorative laminates and a process for producing the laminate paper is disclosed. The laminate paper is made using a sulfur dye. In the past, sulfur dyes caused acidification of the paper, causing the paper to become brittle. In accordance with the present invention, a buffering agent is added in relatively low amounts in order to inhibit acidification of the paper. It was discovered that the buffering agents also provided various other advantages and benefits.

摘要: A process is provided of providing glyoxylated polymer additives to a paper making process which brings about improvements in drainage properties of a cellulosic pulp material along with the ability to increase the dry strength of a resulting paper product. The process uses concentrated glyoxal to generate a working solution of a glyoxylated polymer additive which can be generated on site in a paper mill and used within a 24 to 48 hour interval. The ability to glyoxylate polymers in a working solution concentration provides for a more active additive and which can be supplied in a more economical fashion than conventional glyoxylated polymers.

摘要: This invention relates to a process for converting silica to polysilicate gels or hydrogels by combining an aqueous silica source with a CO2 feed stream as the gel initiator, whereby the reaction stream is propelled at high velocity and turbulence maintaining the CO2 uptake rate in the reaction stream. The invention also relates to a process for converting silica to polysilicate by pre-carbonating water at pressures of equal to or greater than 100 psig before initiating the polysilicate reaction.

摘要: A process of preparing an aqueous composition comprising a polysilicate, wherein the composition is a substantially uniform liquid when measured at 25° C., comprising the steps of, i) providing an aqueous liquid having a source of silicate, ii) adjusting the pH of the liquid to between about 2 and about 10.5, thereby causing polymerisation of the silicate, iii) allowing sufficient time for the polymerisation to proceed to substantial completion and thereby forming a product comprising gelled material, iv) subjecting the gelled material to sufficient shear to form a substantially uniform liquid. The novel aqueous composition made by this process is useful in the manufacture of paper and paperboard either as a mineral filler or as a retention/drainage aid.
