Abstract:
A thyristor has a control device connected between a base layer and an emitter layer. The base layer is provided with a plurality of connecting electrodes one at the center and several around the periphery. A control device is connected to the central electrode while a capacitor is connected between the emitter electrode and the peripheral electrodes.
Abstract:
In order to prevent glow discharge from coil ends of a rotating electrical machine to adjacent grounded machine parts, the coil end is provided on the outside of its insulation with a conducting layer which is connected to ground by a voltage dependent impedance, such as a resistance, whose impedance decreases as the voltage increases.
Abstract:
A sealing cone adapted to be secured on an indicating tap of a diesel engine has a central passage communicating with a diaphragm mounted in a housing. Another housing includes a forcemeasuring device such as a transducer. Pressure forces are transmitted from the diaphragm to the transducer by a central cylinder, and counter-acting tensile forces by a ring surrounding the cylinder and connected by sets of low-heat-conducting screws to both housings, the screws of the two sets being symmetrically spaced from each other around the ring. The cylinder and ring are formed of rigid thermally insulating material. The transducer is thus protected from the heat of the diesel engine.
Abstract:
A DC converter for controlling the average value of an intermittent direct current comprises a main thyristor which is ignited with a certain frequency and provided with an extinguishing circuit having an auxiliary thyristor, the ignition of which causes the extinction of the main thyristor. The extinguishing circuit further comprises an oscillating circuit which includes a reactor and a capacitor, which reactor is in series with the main thyristor as well as the auxiliary thyristor.
Abstract:
A static impedance relay for controlling a circuit includes a switch operated by a relay coil which is connected to a zero detector. The zero detector is fed with a first pulsating voltage which is proportional to the current supplied and a second voltage which is the algebraic sum of a direct voltage proportional to the voltage supply and a second pulsating voltage adjustably proportional to the voltage supply.
Abstract:
A high-voltage isolator comprises a vertical support insulator carrying an obliquely upwardly directed isolator blade, which cooperates with a stationary countercontact suspended in a bus bar conductor. The isolator is operated by turning the support insulator at least 90* about its longitudinal axis.
Abstract:
A vertical furnace includes a press stand and a cylindrical pressure chamber suspended in the press stand. The pressure chamber includes a high-pressure cylinder and end members. The high-pressure cylinder includes a furnace chamber provided with insulation between the pressure cylinder and the walls of the pressure chamber. This insulation is a cylindrical sheath which depends from an end member fixed in one end of the high-pressure cylinder. The end closures include insulating bodies which extend into the furnace member.
Abstract:
In combination with two AC networks, there is at least one converter connected to one of the networks which is composed of diodes and at least one other converter composed of controlled rectifiers. A further converter composed of controlled rectifiers is connected to one of the networks. All the converters are connected in series in one or several DC circuits. The further rectifier is controlled by the current in the DC circuit in such a way as to compensate for variations in the direct current therein. It is possible to connect the converters alternatively to either of the AC circuits.
Abstract:
A high voltage gas blast circuit breaker is provided with series-connected pairs of contacts, one used to interrupt the circuit being protected, and the other used to close or make the circuit being protected. The contact used for circuit interruption may be operated synchronously to interrupt at or before a current zero. The contact used for closing the circuit may be operated when the instantaneous voltage across the contact is zero, thereby to prevent line voltage surges during closing. The operating circuits for the contacts are at the high voltage side of the breaker and contain a generator driven from ground by an insulation shaft. The operating circuits include a photosensitive switch which is energized by light sources located at ground potential.
Abstract:
For the control of a press which includes a press stand, an operating cylinder carried by the stand and having an operating piston therein, a pressure chamber arranged in the stand and an extrusion die in the chamber, with a pressure-generating punch connected to the operating piston and inserted in the pressure chamber for compressing a pressure medium isostatically around the billet, a position indicator and a pressure indicator are provided which are connected to a calculating unit to sense when extrusion starts and to calculate, depending on the size of the billet, the allowable movement of the pressure-generating punch, which is interrupted just before the last of the billet is extruded.
