    摘要: A rotor (10) for a rotating electrical machine is disclosed. The rotor comprises a plurality of salient poles (12) and rotor windings (22, 24) wound on the salient poles. A cooling vent (26) is provided through the rotor windings, the cooling vent extending through the rotor windings in an axial direction and a radial direction. The cooling vent (26) extends in an axial direction from one end of the rotor pole to the other. The cooling vent (26) may be formed by a plurality of discontinuous spacers (28), or by a spacer (78) which extends continuously around the rotor pole (12). Providing a cooling vent which extends through the rotor windings in an axial direction and a radial direction may help to improve the thermal performance of the machine in efficient and cost-effective manner.

The stator coils comprise side windings (17) located in the stator slots, end windings (18) which extend out of the stator slots, and end leads (28) for connecting the stator coils. The end leads (28) run circumferentially around a radially outwards side of the end windings (18). A spacer (34) may be provided to space the end leads from each other and from the end windings. This may help to improve cooling, help to improve electrical separation, and may be more efficient in terms of space requirements and ease of manufacture than previous arrangements.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing lamination segments for the stator of an electrical machine is disclosed. The method comprises producing successive segments (24) from a strip of raw material. Techniques are disclosed for using parts of the raw material which would otherwise be scrap. In one embodiment each segment has a recess (32) in its outer edge, and a portion of an adjacent segment is produced from raw material within the recess. This can allow the scrap rate for segmented stator laminations to be optimised.

Each of the two phase winding arrangements (48) is wound so that there is no mutual inductance between the windings of each phase.     摘要: A rotating electrical machine is disclosed, the machine comprising a stator 14, 52 and a rotor 10, 50 arranged to rotate inside the stator. The rotor comprises a plurality of permanent magnets 28, 30, 54 arranged to produce a radial magnetic flux in an airgap between the rotor and the stator. The machine also comprises a stationary excitation coil 34, 46, 66. The rotor comprises a plurality of low reluctance elements 32, 58. A current through the stationary excitation coil causes a magnetic flux to be established in a magnetic flux path which passes into the rotor through a first low reluctance element and out of the rotor through a second low reluctance element, which magnetic flux combines with the radial magnetic flux produced by the permanent magnets in the airgap. This arrangement can allow control of the field within a permanent magnet radial flux machine.

    摘要: A stator (50) for an electrical machine. A core of the stator (50) is made up of a series of connected segments (42), that are rotatable relative to one another during an assembly operation. Each segment (42) includes a radially outermost base portion (44) from which a respective integral pole piece (46) projects substantially inwardly to a pole piece tip. The tip includes a surface (49) that is arcuate and concentric with an axis of rotation of the machine. Each pole piece (46) projects in a non-radial direction and such that a semi-closed slot (48) arranged to locate part of a least one coil (30) therein is provided between each pair of juxtaposed pole pieces (46). A coil (30) is fittable to a respective one of the pole pieces (46) during the assembly operation without deformation of the pole piece (46).
