Abstract:
Interference on a differential signal received at a first input to a digital data system processor is minimised or cancelled by summing a weighted portion of a local field signal with the differential signal. The local field signal may be a common-mode signal from the same line as the differential signal received at a second input. Weight may be a complex weight which shifts the local field signal in amplitude and phase. A weight control signal is derived from a comparison processor which compares the processed outputs of signal processors. Signal processors are preferably Discrete Multi-tone processors. Several iterations of this technique may be performed to establish an accurate weighting value.
Abstract:
In the Intelligent Networks environment, where multiple Service Providers and multi-Vendor equipment are involved in new service offering, the risk of overloading the network elements are real and managing the traffic is a challenge. Network traffic overloads could result from equipment failures, major equipment outages, or widespread loads above engineered levels. To solve the problem of network traffic overload, a Mediation Point (MP) is connected to a group of service control points (SCP). The MP includes control feature to balance the load and manage the overload controls for the multiple SCPs that are deployed in load sharing mode in the network.
Abstract:
In methods and apparatus for obtaining subscriber data for a mobile terminal roaming in a service area of a visited wireless network, the visited wireless network receives from the roaming mobile terminal a registration request specifying an identifier. If subscriber data corresponding to the identifier cannot be found at an HLR of the visited wireless network or at a VLR associated with the HLR, an Intersystem Roaming (ISR) database is searched for an address corresponding to the identifier. If such an address is found, a subscriber data request is transmitted to the address. If no such address is found, the subscriber data request is broadcast to plural wireless networks connected to the visited wireless network. Subscriber data received in response to the subscriber data request is stored in the VLR, and an address corresponding to the identifier is stored in the ISR. The methods and apparatus are particularly useful for supporting roaming of mobile terminals that cannot identify the location of their subscriber data.
Abstract:
Bidirectional WDM transmission at 2.5 Gb/s using a bidirectional erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is demonstrated over a distance of 300 km. A symmetrical EDFA configuration with a frequency tunable reflection attenuator is used as a bidirectional amplifier. Experimental results show that the allowable gain of the EDFA can be increased significantly while the associated bit error rate BER penalty remains negligible.
Abstract:
A novel transport architecture and network elements use nodes in a ring or virtual ring configuration. Information is exchanged among the nodes in a continuous series of containers carried in a superframe. A container is assigned to a destination node and is divided into partitions which are allocated for source nodes. Therefore, when a container destined to a particular destination node arrives at a node and if this node has information to send to the destination node, it fills the allocated partition within the container with information destined to the destination node. The sizes of the superframe, containers and partitions are all variable dynamically or statically.
Abstract:
A charge pump circuit includes a current mirror circuit of current-sourcing and current-sinking FETs and a current steering circuit of cross coupled differential pairs of FETs. Nominal current flowing in the current-sourcing and current-sinking FETs is set. The current is for charging and discharging a capacitor of an external filter. During charging of the capacitor, the current through the current-sourcing FET is directed to the capacitor and the current through the current-sinking FET is directed from a low impedance voltage source. During discharging of the filter capacitor, the current through the current-sourcing FET is directed to the low impedance voltage source and the current through the current-sinking FET is directed from the capacitor. The current flowing in the current-sourcing and current-sinking FETs is nominally constant, regardless of the tri-state condition, charging or discharging, with the result that power supply noise is reduced. Current change in the power supply rails is reduced when switching from current-sourcing to current-sinking or vice versa. By using cascode FETs in both of the current-sourcing and current-sinking FET circuits, power supply noise rejection is improved.
Abstract:
The method of quickly locating non-standard control channels in private cellular systems is accomplished in an embodiment of the present invention by determining the modulation type of a particular channel. The mobile station scans a received RF channel. The received signal is used for the evaluation of the modulation type of that channel by using matched filters designed for the specific signal of interest, and/or in another embodiment of the present invention is used for producing the spectral energy distribution of the channel revealing the type of modulation.
Abstract:
A multi-line key telephone system not having a key service unit includes three analog telephone lines to which up to eight, three-line telephones may be connected to provide enhanced service features with cost-effectiveness. System reliability is maintained, notwithstanding the power dependency of the telephones, by including POTS telephones to provide uninterrupted essential telephone service in the event of a power outage. Both data and voice communications between two or more of the three-line telephones is achieved by converting an input digital bit stream from either a digital or analog source into a corresponding out-of-band binary FSK radio frequency output signal that is transceivingly communicated between the three-line telephones as data packets within a TDM frame. The out-of-band signal thus permits analog voice communications on the same line to proceed without interference. A telephone initiating a communications session acts as a master station, establishing inter-station communications synchronous at the frame level and asynchronous at the packet level. The called telephone functions as a slave station in a second time slot synchronized to a first time slot in the TDM frame received from the master. Temporary storage of data in firmware buffers and controlled timing at both the master and slave permits these stations to function within their respective TDM frame time slots.
Abstract:
A distribution network groups television program signals into service tiers. To provide these from unsynchronized MPEG streams without resynchronization, each stream, representing a single program signal is encapsulated into ATM cells with a virtual path (VP) identification of each ATM cell corresponding to the service tier and a virtual channel (VC) identification corresponding to the respective program signal. Payloads in cells having the same VP are scrambled using a scrambling key allocated to that VP and hence to the corresponding service tier, and are unscrambled by entitled subscribers using the scrambling key which is supplied to them individually using public/private encryption techniques.
