Abstract: A method of re-profiling a cornea of an eye is provided which includes causing ablation energy to be applied across the cornea of the eye and controlling distribution of the ablation energy across the cornea of the eye. The distribution of the ablation energy is controlled by causing the ablation energy to provide an ablation zone, having an optical zone disposed in a central portion of the anterior surface and a transition zone disposed peripherally to the optical zone on an anterior surface of the cornea the ablation zone, and determining a shape of the transition zone by selecting between a cubic spline function and a complementary error function.

Abstract: A system for determining a vision treatment for an eye of a patient is provided which comprises a memory configured to store programmed instructions and data. The system also comprises a processor in communication with the memory. The processor is configured to receive an original target profile for the eye of the patient. The processor is also configured to obtain a cut-off spatial domain kernel filter and convolve the original target profile with the cut-off spatial domain kernel filter to provide a convolved target profile. The processor is further configured to determine the vision treatment based on the convolved target profile.

Abstract: Systems and methods for removing an epithelial layer disposed over a stromal layer in a cornea irradiate a region of the epithelial layer with a pulsed beam of ablative radiation. The ablative radiation is scanned to vary the location of the beam within the region in accordance with a pulse sequence. The pulse sequence is arranged to enhance optical feedback based on a tissue fluorescence of the epithelial layer. The penetration of the epithelial layer is detected in response to the optical feedback. The use of scanning with the pulse sequence arranged to enhance optical feedback allows large areas of the epithelium to be ablated such penetration of the epithelial layer can be detected.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for interfacing an ophthalmic surgical laser with an eye using a patient interface (PI). The PI may include a closed, fluid-filled bladder having fiducials that contacts and deforms to the eye. Or, the PI may have an applanation lens with an outer ring portion and an inner concave portion for receiving the apex of the cornea. Another PI features a suction ring with a flexible skirt for contacting the sclera that is non-circular and/or non-planar. A system for injecting an index matching fluid into the area above the eye may also be incorporated. An integrated system includes a co-molded lens cone and attachment ring, with a lens window at the bottom of the lens cone which provides a sealed volume for vacuum-attaching a laser delivery system above the lens cone.

Abstract: Embodiments generally relate to systems and methods for lenticular laser incisions based on wavefront maps. In an embodiment, a method comprises obtaining a wavefront map of a free eye using wavefront aberrometry to measure a refractive error, obtaining an iris image for the free eye using wavefront aberrometry, determining a free eye cutting profile to cut the cornea based on the wavefront measurement, determining a first translation of the free eye cutting profile based on estimated perturbation of the eye with a docking patient interface, docking the eye to a patient interface of an ultrashort pulsed laser system, obtaining an iris image for the docked eye, determining a second translation of the cutting profile for the docked eye from the free eye, using comparisons between the two iris images, and incising a bottom surface incision in the cornea based on the two translated cutting profiles.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide methods and systems for analyzing the ophthalmic anatomy of a patient posterior to the cornea. The method may include scanning a focus of a femtosecond laser beam along a path within the patient's eye. A portion of the path may be disposed posterior to the patient's cornea. The method may also include acquiring a first reflectance image and a second reflectance image associated with the focus disposed respectively at a first location of the path and a second location of the path. The method may further include determining the presence or absence of an ophthalmic anatomical feature of the eye based on a comparison between the first reflectance image and the second reflectance image.
