摘要： An airbag cushion is disclosed for use in automotive protective systems. The airbag cushion includes a vent flap that, prior to cushion deployment, extends from the cushion exterior through a vent. A strap is coupled to the vent flap and to an interior surface of the cushion. Upon airbag deployment, the strap extends until taut or extends until the cushion encounters an obstruction. If pulled taut, the strap pulls the vent flap into the cushion interior where the interior air pressure effectively presses the vent flap against the vent. If the cushion encounters an obstruction, the strap remains lax, and the vent remains open. Devices are provided for retaining the vent in the closed position during occupant ride down.

摘要： An enhanced overhead airbag assembly is provided. The overhead airbag assembly has an airbag module designed to be attached to the roof of a vehicle, rearward of the header. The airbag module is concealed from vehicle occupants via a headliner assembly that includes a headliner, header trim, central console, and sun visors. The header trim covers at least a portion of the header and overlaps the forward edge of the headliner on the passenger's side. The passenger's side headliner is shaped to form a deployment door to permit emergence of the inflating airbag cushion. The headliner is tethered to the roof via a frangible fastener so that the headliner does not interfere with inflation or strike the occupant.

摘要： A breakaway latch plate for use with the seat belt system is disclosed. The breakaway latch plate includes a latch plate body that may be selectively secured to a buckle. An orifice may be disposed within the latch plate body. Seat belt webbing passes through the orifice. A locking mechanism is coupled to the latch plate body. In a locked state, the locking mechanism prevents movement of the seat belt webbing relative to the latch plate body. When a predetermined load is applied to the seat belt webbing, the locking mechanism changes to an unlocked state, in which the seat belt webbing may move relative to the latch plate body.

摘要： A load distribution panel retention apparatus which effectively secures a knee bolster airbag to a load distribution panel. The apparatus includes a flat, rectangular piece of textile material attached to a knee bolster airbag to form a panel retainer which is open on both ends. A load distribution panel, also called a knee bolster panel, is secured to the airbag by positioning the load distribution panel between the panel retainer and the airbag. The apparatus includes a housing secured to the instrument panel or to a firewall of a vehicle. The conventional inflatable knee airbag is stored within the housing and in communication with an inflator. The inflator is stored within the housing and inflates the knee airbag in an accident situation. A trim cover panel is attached to the load distribution panel to provide a decorative covering of the airbag module.
