Abstract: A laser-assisted microfluidics manufacturing process has been developed for the fabrication of additively manufactured structures. Roll-to-roll manufacturing is enhanced by the use of a laser-assisted electrospray printhead positioned above the flexible substrate. The laser electrospray printhead sprays microdroplets containing nanoparticles onto the substrate to form both thin-film and structural layers. As the substrate moves, the nanoparticles are sintered using a laser beam directed by the laser electrospray printhead onto the substrate.

Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) microelectrode array for in vitro electrical and microfluidic interrogation of electrogenic cell constructs includes a substrate having a plurality of micro vias. A hypodermic microneedle is received within each micro via of a first subgroup of the plurality of micro vias and each has a length that exceeds the thickness of the substrate to form a hypodermic microneedle array on the top face of the substrate. Metallic traces are formed on the bottom face and interconnect the hypodermic microneedles. A culturing area is formed in the top face.

Abstract: An adaptive computer simulation rendering system is disclosed for conditioning an individual suffering from a stress disorder, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), to real-world environments through variable sensory output in computer simulations. The subject is fully or partially immersed in a computer-simulated environment for a time-limited session. Real-time monitoring of the human subject is performed for a change in a sensor-derived, quantified sensory load level. Responsive to an increase in sensory load level, the computer-simulated environment modulates the sensor load on the individual. The human subject adapts to increasingly complex environments by this modulation of simulation.

Abstract: A computer vision-based system provides for load distribution estimation and load rating and vibration serviceability assessment of structures. The system integrates evaluates the structural load carrying capacity, the diagnosis and prognosis of performance and safety, and vibration serviceability. Cameras record images of a structure, and regions of interest are monitored in those images for their displacement and velocity as loading varies. Where the displacement determined exceeds a predetermined threshold, or where the acceleration determined exceeds predetermined limits, or where the distribution of displacements of parts of the structure deviates substantially from an estimated displacement distribution, an output indicating potential problems with the structure is output.

Abstract: A supercontinuum source may include a seed source providing seed light, where the seed source includes one or more seed lasers to generate the seed light and a seed controller to adjust at least one of a temporal pulse profile or a wavelength of the seed light. The supercontinuum source may further include an optical fiber to receive the seed light, where the seed source pumps the optical fiber to induce the generation of supercontinuum output light, and where a spectrum of the supercontinuum output light is controllable by adjusting at least one of the temporal pulse profile or the wavelength of the seed light with the seed controller.

A magnetic sorter magnetically sorts the lunar soil and the system creates a layered surface comprising a microwave susceptible, thermal conductive top layer of lunar soil and a poorly microwave-susceptible and poorly thermally conductive sublayer of lunar soil. A microwave generator generates microwave energy into an antenna and directs the microwave energy onto the top layer of lunar soil to sinter the microwave susceptible, thermal conductive top layer of lunar soil.

Abstract: Various embodiments relate to a syringe for separating nucleic acids from a blood sample and systems that include the syringe and a portable PGR device. The syringe may include a shell defining a central aperture extending through a longitudinal axis of the syringe, a plunger disposed within the central aperture of the shell, and a core rotatably disposed within the central aperture. The syringe may further include a needle fluidically connectable to the inlet of the shell. Various embodiments relate to a method for separating nucleic acids from a blood sample, the method comprising drawing the blood sample from a patient using the syringe according to any of the embodiments described herein.
