Abstract: Described is an illumination structure for a key of a keyboard. The illumination structure is used to uniformly illuminate the key and any glyphs that are present on the key. The illumination structure includes a light guide having various features that increase total internal reflection and also illuminate the glyphs of the key.

Abstract: An input mechanism is disclosed. The input mechanism includes a dome support structure defining an opening that extends through the dome support structure, a collapsible dome positioned in the opening and engaged with the dome support structure, and a cover member coupled to the dome support structure and covering the collapsible dome, thereby retaining the collapsible dome within the opening of the dome support structure.

The switch has at least two contacts that are bridged in response to actuation of a dome that is positioned above the switch. The flexible substrate includes a signal trace for detecting the actuation of the dome and a power trace for providing power to the light source.

Abstract: Keyboards include mechanisms that prevent and/or alleviate contaminant ingress. In some embodiments, a keyboard assembly includes a substrate, a key cap, a movement mechanism moveably coupling the key cap to the substrate, and a guard structure coupled to the key cap operable to direct contaminants away from the movement mechanism. In other embodiments, a keyboard includes a base; a web that defines apertures; keys moveably coupled to the base within the apertures; and a gasket coupled to the keys, the gasket fixed between the web and the base, operable to block passage of contaminants into the apertures.

Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with upper and lower housing portions that are separated by a gap. Hinge structures may allow the upper housing portion to rotate between a closed position and an open position. A flexible printed circuit in the electronic device may be coupled between components in the upper housing portion such as the display and components in the lower housing portion and may span the gap. A hinge gap cover may cover the gap and may overlap the flexible printed circuit to block the flexible printed circuit from view when the upper housing portion is in the closed position. The hinge gap cover may be formed from a layer of radio-transparent material that is rotatably coupled to the upper housing portion and that is biased towards the lower housing with a spring structure.

Abstract: A display may include a color filter layer, a liquid crystal layer, and a thin-film transistor layer. A camera window may be formed in the display to accommodate a camera. The camera window may be formed by creating a notch in the thin-film transistor layer that extends inwardly from the edge of the thin-film transistor layer. The notch may be formed by scribing the thin-film transistor layer around the notch location and breaking away a portion of the thin-film transistor layer. A camera window may also be formed by grinding a hole in the display. The hole may penetrate partway into the thin-film transistor layer, may penetrate through the transistor layer but not into the color filter layer, or may pass through the thin-film transistor layer and partly into the color filter layer.
