    摘要： A user identity authentication system in a network is implemented on a device or multiple devices in the network. The authentication system employs a map that translates device-specific user IDs to system-wide user IDs and vice versa. A user is authenticated on a device with a device-specific authentication method. Once a user is authenticated on a specific device, a device-specific user ID is translated into a system-wide user ID. This system-wide user ID is further translated into other device-specific user IDs such that other devices can authenticate the user based on the device-specific user IDs. Further, if a device is not capable of authenticating a user, it can delegate authentication to another device or a proxy.

    摘要： A method and system for providing services in a network including a control point and plural UPnP devices is provided. Surrogates are used to functionally replace the original UPnP device/service functionalities without new hardware or firmware/software updates. The surrogates enable proper operation in UPnP networks where devices that implement surrogates can coexist in the same network with UPnP devices that do not. This allows updating existing device functionalities without requiring new hardware or firmware/software updates.

The management process involves receiving a video input signal including a video stream, obtaining content information corresponding to the video stream, associating the content information with the video stream, and storing the video stream and associated content information in a database as a searchable index for the video stream.
