Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for performing cellular relay for an accessory device. A relay device may establish cellular communication with a base station and an accessory device. Establishing communication with the accessory device includes establishing synchronization with the accessory device using a cellular sidelink synchronization channel and a cellular broadcast channel. Establishing communication with the accessory device includes configuring resources for performing communication with the accessory device. Establishing communication with the accessory device includes indicating the resources to the accessory device. The relay device may relay information between the base station and the accessory device using the resources.

Abstract: A method, device, computer readable storage medium and integrated circuit for providing user equipment (UE) capability information to a network. The method includes receiving a request from a network for radio access capabilities of the UE, determining a first plurality of band combinations that the UE is capable of utilizing for communications with the network, determining a number of band combinations that are to be included with a message generated in response to the request, ordering the plurality of band combinations into a prioritized order of band combinations based on at least one priority factor, generating the message that includes the radio access capabilities, wherein the message includes a second plurality of band combinations that are based on the prioritized order and the number of band combinations that are to be included with a message and transmitting the message to the network.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) and base station may implement improved communication methods which enable a UE to operate according to a sub-frame allocation based on its current power state. The UE may transmit information including a maximum number of uplink (UL) sub-frames the UE can transmit in an allocation period and receive, from a base station, a first sub-frame allocation based on at least the first information. In embodiments, the UE may merge an un-allocated UL sub-frame's downlink association set with a next closest allocated UL sub-frame's downlink association set.

The first synchronization sequence may include multiple repetitions of a basis sequence, multiplied by a cover code. The basis sequence may span multiple orthogonal frequency division multiplexing symbols.

Abstract: Mechanisms enabling link-budget-limited (LBL) devices to more effectively perform random access may include: (1) broadcasting a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) configuration index (PCI) reserved for LBL devices; (2) configuring LBL devices to use a PCI that is offset from the conventional PCI of current cell; (3) configuring LBL devices to transmit PRACH messages using an alternative set of subframes, different from conventionally-defined subframe set; (4) configuring LBL devices to transmit PRACH messages on odd frames when the conventional PRACH configuration specifies even frames; (5) configuring LBL devices to generate and use extra PRACH preambles that are not used by non-LBL devices; (6) configuring LBL devices to use group B preambles while non-LBL devices are configured to use group A preambles; and (7) boosting power of a random access response message after an Nth random access failure with preamble conforming to an LBL-reserved pattern of preambles.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods to manage data connections to multiple wireless networks in a wireless communication device supporting multiple subscriber identities via multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs) are disclosed. A representative method includes detecting an application request to establish a data connection; obtaining a preference for prioritization of data connections for the multiple SIMs; and based on the preference, establishing the data connection with a wireless network associated with one of the multiple SIMs. In representative embodiments, the preference is based on a user specified or default prioritization of the multiple SIMs, an order of radio access technologies (RATs), one or more quality metrics, data rates supported, and/or availability of wireless local area networks for the data connections.

Abstract: While operating in connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) mode, a wireless communication device may initiate handover operations when a neighboring base station is determined by the wireless communication device to be a better serving cell than a base station operating as the current serving cell for the wireless communication device. Instead of transmitting a measurement report to the current serving cell, the wireless communication device may select one of the neighboring base stations as the new serving cell, responsive to measurements of the current serving cell and the neighboring cells performed by the wireless communication device during the on-duration of the C-DRX cycle. This enables a longer C-DRX cycle, which leads to the wireless communication device saving more power during non-real-time sensitive background data transmissions, while also avoiding higher handover failure rates and extra Radio Resource Control signaling that may need to be performed as a result of radio link failure.

A wireless device may establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a cellular base station. A data inactivity timer length and a target RRC state for implicit RRC transitions may be determined. A data inactivity timer having the determined data inactivity timer length may be initiated. It may be determined that the data inactivity timer has expired. The wireless device may transition to the target RRC state based at least in part on determining that the data inactivity timer has expired.
