    Abstract: A continuously variable transmission is disclosed for use in rotationally or linearly powered machines and vehicles. The transmission provides a simple manual shifting method for the user. Further, the practical commercialization of traction roller transmissions requires improvements in the reliability, ease of shifting, function and simplicity of the transmission. The present invention includes a continuously variable transmission that may be employed in connection with any type of machine that is in need of a transmission. For example, the transmission may be used in (i) a motorized vehicle such as an automobile, motorcycle, or watercraft, (ii) a non-motorized vehicle such as a bicycle, tricycle, scooter, exercise equipment or (iii) industrial equipment, such as a drill press, power generating equipment, or textile mill.

    Abstract: A training system uses a mechanical mock-up with electrically conductive probe points connected to electronically readable memories, and a simulated diagnostic tool to interface with a system or machine simulation for the purpose of operation, maintenance or procedure training. When a probe of a simulated diagnostic tool comes into contact with a probe point of the mechanical mock-up, the electronically readable memory supplies a unique identifier code that is communicated by the simulated diagnostic tool to the simulation to indicate the contact of the probe with the corresponding probe point. Complex wiring connections between the mechanical mock-up and a computer that runs the simulation are eliminated and construction of the training system is significantly simplified.

    Abstract: A computer-assisted method for presenting a multi-media plurality of elements. Each element, including, for example, video images, still images and documents, is stored by assigned index number in an appropriate input device such as a VHS recorder or laser disk reader (video and stills) or an optical or magnetic disk reader (documents). The input devices are addressed by such index numbers to thereby call up and display selected elements in a WINDOWS format. The format is adjustable from a basic default setting to enable the user to customize frames prior to entry into a script buffer. Thereafter the script buffer is addressable, permitting the frames constituting the presentation to be entered into a script file in a preferred presentation sequence. The presentation is made by addressing the script file to recall selected frames. The method allows the user to preview flames one at a time and allows the user to reformat each frame prior to public display.

    Abstract: An ink jet printer with a roll of paper stored within an imaging drum. The paper through a longitudinal opening in the drum to the outside, passes around the drum, where it is held in place during the imaging process, and then ejected from the drum to the desired length and cut off by a cutter that extends the full width of the paper. While the imaged sheet is being ejected from the drum, the next length of paper is drawn from the interior of the drum and around the outside of the drum in position for the next imaging operation. The length of paper that remains projecting from the drum after the imaged paper has been cut off is then withdrawn into the interior of the drum through the longitudinal opening in the drum surface until only a short stub, which will not interfere with the subsequent imaging operation, remains protruding from the drum. Precise movement of the paper is under the control of a counter that is responsive to the paper movement. This counter movement also provides an indication in the event the paper jams and warns when the supply of paper within the drum is nearing its end. The entire operation is automatic under the control of a central processor unit.
