Voltage supplied to a current generation unit in an electrostatic transfer unit is controlled independent of the characteristic properties of the copy substrate. Image reproduction quality is maintained in an electrostatic reproduction device even as the width of the copy substrate changes and in the presence of end leakage current effect.

    摘要: An apparatus for developing a latent image recorded on a surface, including a housing defining a chamber storing a supply of developer material including toner and carrier beads. A toner donor member is spaced from the surface and is adapted to transport toner to a region opposed from the surface. A magnetic roller conveys the toner material in the chamber of the housing onto the donor member. An electrode member is spaced near the surface of a donor roll, the electrode member electrically biased by a power supply to detach toner from the donor member as to form a toner cloud for developing the latent image. A power supply controller, in communication with the power supply, is adapted to adjust the electrode member electrical biasing to avoid air breakdown induced contamination of the electrode member with toner.

    摘要: An apparatus for enabling a laterally conductive, resistive backed photoconductive intermediate transfer member in an electrophotographic printing apparatus. The printing apparatus includes a toner transfer system having an intermediate transfer belt comprising a laterally conductive resistive substrate with a pre-transfer grounding device and a transfer charging device. A ground potential bias is applied to the intermediate transfer belt prior to entering a transfer nip region to generate low transfer fields therein. Subsequently, the laterally conductive resistive layer of the intermediate surface is provided with a biasing voltage, generating high transfer fields in the transfer nip. In an alternative embodiment, a post-transfer bias is applied to the intermediate transfer belt for substantially enhancing the transfer fields in the transfer nip.

    摘要: An image forming apparatus forms a multi-colored image on an image receiving member. The image forming apparatus has a plurality of imaging devices, an image support device and a transferring device. Each imaging device has an imaging drum having a photoconductive layer, a charging device, an exposing device, developing device, a toner charging device and a transferring device. Each imaging device forms and transfers a charged toner image to the image support device. In another embodiment the image forming apparatus has a plurality of imaging devices, an image support device, a plurality of first charging devices and a transferring device. Each one of the plurality of imaging devices produces a toned image. The image support device receives the plurality of toned images from the plurality of imaging devices. The plurality of imaging devices are spaced along a first direction of the image support device. Each one of the first charging devices charges each of the toned images into a charged toned image on the image support device. Each one of the charging devices is located downstream from each of the imaging devices in the first direction. The plurality of charging toned images forms a multi-toned image. The transferring device transfers the multi-toned image on the image support device to the image receiving member.

    摘要: A discharge apparatus for use in applying a uniform electrostatic charge to a charge retentive surface. Specifically, the apparatus has an array of pin or needle electrodes for negatively charging the surface. The electrodes are coupled to a pulsed d.c. power supply designed to cause them to operate at sufficiently high current densities to insure stable output therefrom yet due to the pulsing stability is achieved at relatively low current levels. Thus, operation at higher current densities for shorter intervals, for example, at half duty achieves output stability at lower current levels.

    摘要: In an electrostatographic copier in which a copy member bearing an unfused and electrically disturbable image is transported on a conductive vacuum guide member and then removed from the conductive guide member, the improvement wherein a smooth conductive baffle is electrically connected and sufficiently closely spaced from said guide member to provide a low electrostatic field zone between the baffle and the guide member for the movement therebetween of the copy member, and its removal from the guide member without electrical disturbance of the image, wherein the opposing baffle and guide member have similar and opposite diverging radii of curvature in the copy removal area. Means for automatically moving the baffle in coordination with the movement of said copy member are also shown.
