    摘要: A display medium for an electrophoretic display device includes a liquid system, at least one thermally reversible gelling agent, and at least one set of particles exhibiting a color. Inclusion of the gelling agent enables an image formed in the display device at an elevated temperature of about or above the melting point of the gelling agent to be fixed in a gel state, e.g., at temperature of about or below a gel point of the gelling agent. The image thus has stability, even in the absence of an applied electrophoretic field.

    摘要: An electrophoretic display device includes a display layer comprised of a binder having a multiplicity of individual cavities therein that contain a display medium, and conductive substrates, at least one of the conductive substrates being transparent, wherein the display layer is located in between the conductive substrates, and wherein the display medium comprises one or more set of colored particles in a dielectric fluid and has an electrical conductivity of about 10−11 to about 10−15 S/m. The display device may be made by forming composite particles comprised of a sacrificial binder and the one or more set of particles of the display medium; mixing the composite particles with the binder to form a mixture; forming a layer from the mixture; removing the sacrificial binder from the composite particles in the layer to form cavities in the layer that contain the one or more set of colored particles; and filling the cavities with the dielectric fluid.

    摘要: Set forth is a method of forming an electrophoretic display device that includes locating a multiplicity of individual reservoirs containing a display fluid between conductive substrates, at least one of which is transparent, to form a device, wherein the display fluid comprises at least two sets of particles in a liquid medium, the at least two sets of particles exhibiting a different color, and charging each of the sets of particles to have a different charge via application of an electric field to the device. This field induced charging of the sets of differently colored particles enables low conductivity particles with superior electrophoretic mobility to be achieved.

    摘要: Various techniques are disclosed for forming bichromal balls or multicolored balls by laser-based methods. In one method, a laser and a template are used to form small discrete precursors that are subsequently spherodized. In another method a laser is used to cut or otherwise form small discrete precursors that are also subsequently spherodized. These methods are particularly well suited for forming balls or other sphere-like bodies having diameters less than 100 microns.
