摘要: A magnetic field sensor device (2) is described that comprises an oscillatory member (8) and current control means (6). The current control means (6) is arranged to pass an alternating current (AC) along at least first (10) and second (12) current paths provided through the oscillatory member (8) and is arranged to provide magnetic gradiometer mode operation (i.e. to measure magnetic field gradient) in which current flow through the first current path (10) is in substantially the opposite direction to current flow through the second current path (12). The current control means (6) can also prove magnetometer mode operation (i.e. to measure magnetic field strength). The magnetic field sensor (2) may be used in a compass.

摘要: A method for monitoring a selected region of an airspace associated with local area networks of computing devices is provided. The method includes providing one or more segments of a legacy local area network to be protected in a selected geographic region. The legacy local area network is characterized by an unsecured airspace within the selected geographic region. The method includes determining a security policy associated with the one or more segments of the legacy local area network. The security policy at least characterizes a type of wireless activity in the unsecured airspace to be permitted, denied, or ignored. Additionally, the method includes connecting one or more sniffer devices into the legacy local area network. The one or more sniffer devices are spatially disposed within the selected geographic region to cause at least a portion of the unsecured airspace to be secured according to the security policy. Moreover, the method includes coupling a security appliance to the legacy local area network. The method also includes determining if at least one of the sniffer devices is coupled to each of the one or more segments of the legacy local area network to be protected and determining if the one or more sniffer devices substantially covers the portion of the unsecured airspace to be secured The method additionally includes monitoring wireless activity in the airspace using the one or more sniffer devices, and automatically classifying, using a classification process, a portion of information associated with the monitoring of the wireless activity to at least determine if the wireless activity communicates to at least one of the one or more segments to be protected. Further, the method includes detecting a violation of the security policy based upon at least the classifying of the portion of the information from the monitoring of the wireless activity, and automatically processing an action associated with the violation in accordance to the security policy for the one or more segments in the legacy local area network to be protected

摘要: A method that provides printhead swath height measurement and compensation includes the steps of establishing a nominal printhead swath height to be associated with printheads of a particular type; printing a swath using a first printhead of the particular type; measuring a printhead swath height of the first printhead; determining a difference between the measured printhead swath height of the first printhead and the nominal printhead swath height; generating a printhead swath height correction value based on the difference; and storing the printhead swath height correction value in a printhead memory associated with the first printhead.

摘要: A solids separation system may be used to separate solids, such as cuttings from drilling fluids used in well drilling operations. The system includes a settling tank having transverse baffles defining a fluid receiving chamber, a fluid output chamber and one or more intermediate chambers. Fluid introduced into the fluid receiving chamber can flow in a sinuous path through apertures in the baffles to the fluid output chamber. Solids settle to the bottom of the settling tank. A material conveyor, preferably an auger, extends along a bottom surface of the settling tank to an outlet port in the fluid receiving chamber. A centrifuge is connected to the output port to receive fluid in which solids have been concentrated. Fluid output from the centrifuge is reintroduced into the settling tank. The apparatus and method of the invention permit a single centrifuge to be used to handle a higher volume of fluid than is possible with conventional methods and apparatus. This provides significant cost savings.

摘要: A blood sampling device for penetrating skin to obtain a blood sample is disclosed. The blood sampling device has a blade structure that can be extended from a housing to pierce the skin and then retracted. The blade structure has at least two blades each including a cutting edge. The blades abut one another to form a rigid joint from which the blades extend. The blades each have a distal portion in which the distance from the rigid joint to the cutting edge decreases towards and terminates at a sharp point at a distal end. Each blade generally forms an angle less than 180 degrees with at least one neighboring blade. This structure decreases the tendency of the blade structure to flex as the distal end of the blade structure penetrates the skin to yield blood.
