Storage of the position of the displacement device of the particular end position takes place when the control variable of the displacement device has reached a particular predetermined value and/or has maintained this value for a predetermined period of time. This method is utilized in an advantageous manner to determine the end positions of a power actuator of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
