It is possible to use the coil current of the motor or the motor rotation speed and the discharge pressure in place of the detected temperature signal. This constitution provides a screw compressor which offers fan-removed heat quantity not excessive or insufficient with respect to the motor heat generation quantity, and realizes sufficient cooling for the motor, and energy saving.

Since a pair of zigzag circumferential direction grooves 28 are positioned at the center of a tread central region 24C and has an amplitude, even when a certain camber angle is exceeded, an occurrence of a sudden separation of the zigzag circumferential direction groove 28 from a road-contact surface 26 can be prevented, whereby deterioration of wet steering stability can be suppressed. When the camber angle increases, water in a road-contact surface 26 is drained by inclining grooves 32 which are arranged at an external side of the zigzag circumferential direction groove 28. Since sharp inclining groove portions 32A of the inclining grooves 32 are positioned in the tread central region 24C, and no lug groove components are employed, circumferential direction rigidities of land portions in the tread central region 24C are high and exhibits excellent wear resistance. Since loose inclining groove portions 32B and sub-inclining grooves 38 of the inclining grooves 32 are positioned in tread side regions 24S, rigidities of land portions 40 resisting to inputs at the time of a large camber angle are high, and accordingly, wear resistance is high.

A voltage application driving method is provided for quickly changing the alignment of a liquid crystal layer in thin film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT/LCD) to a bend alignment. In this driving method, a potential difference larger than 10 V is continuously or intermittently provided between the signal electrode of the liquid crystal cells, and the counter electrode of the display while maintaining the potential difference between the gate electrode and the signal electrode of the cells larger than 10 V. The on-time over which an intermittent potential difference is provided between the signal electrode and the counter electrode is preferably equal to or longer than the time period for part of the liquid crystal layer to effectively begin a transition to the second-stage splay alignment, and the off-time over which no potential difference is provided between the signal electrode and the counter electrode is equal to or longer than the time period necessary for the liquid crystal region of of the second-stage splay alignment to return to its state before the voltage application.

The present invention is directed to the prevention of reversal and deterioration of a screen at right and left viewing angles and upper and lower viewing angles in an OCB-mode liquid-crystal display. It is possible to prevent deterioration of a screen by obtaining the optimum value of �absolute value {R(V.sub.1)} of retardation before correction by phase compensation film!/wavelength (.lambda.) at a lower-side driving voltage for each color of R, G, and B and thereby, preventing an optical rotation of liquid crystal on B wavelength. Specifically, B wavelength is set to R(V.sub.1)/.lambda..ltoreq.0.85. By adjusting a cell gap of each color, display characteristics of a screen at right and left viewing angles are improved.
