摘要: A method for driving a plasma display panel is provided in which wasteful power consumption is reduced and light emission efficiency is improved when the number of cells to be lighted is relatively small. The method includes classifying a display ratio into plural group ranges, selecting a suitable display pulse waveform for each group range, detecting the display ratio of an object to be displayed in a real display, and plural types of display pulses having different waveforms are used differently in accordance with the result of the detection. The display ratio means a ratio of the number of cells to be lighted to the number of cells of the screen.

摘要: A Plasma Display Apparatus having common electrodes and address electrodes extending in a first direction and scan electrodes extending in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, and each address electrode is aligned with a respective common electrode. A display cell is formed at a crossing portion of each common electrode and address electrode pair and each scan electrode. A lit state or an unlit state of each display cell is selected by applying, in individual succession, scan pulses to scan electrodes and selectively applying address pulses to the address electrodes. A sustain discharge is produced in each display cell selected to be lit by applying sustain pulses between the common electrodes and the scan electrodes.

摘要: A plasma display includes address electrodes for scanning and addressing display cells, and scan electrodes for establishing an address discharge between the address electrodes and the scan electrodes by addressing. The display also includes common electrodes for establishing a sustain discharge between the scan electrodes and the common electrodes to display an image at the display cells, and a scan driver for supplying a voltage to the scan electrodes so as to scan display cells upon addressing during divided periods. Upon addressing, the scan driver varies the potential of a scan electrode adjacent to the scan electrode that corresponds to the addressed address electrode.

摘要: In a reset period after a sustain discharge period, erase discharges are done by applying pulse voltages having different waveforms in the first erase discharge period for an ON cell turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period and in the second erase discharge period even for an OFF cell not turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period. Weak wall charges that could not completely be erased in the first erase discharge period, i.e., weak wall charges having been accumulated in the OFF cell under the influence of the ON cell can be erased in the second erase discharge period. This makes it possible to prevent an ON operation of the OFF cell that should not be turned on in the subsequent address period and sustain discharge period, and to improve the driving voltage margin.

摘要: In a plasma display, a plurality of first display electrodes and a plurality of second electrodes are arranged in parallel with one another and in which a plurality of addressing electrodes are arranged to intersect the first and the second display electrodes. When a sustaining discharge is generated between the first and the second display electrode by applying an anode potential to one of the first and the second display electrode and a cathode potential to the other thereof, a potential lower than the anode potential and higher than the cathode potential is applied to the first and the second display electrode adjacent to the first and the second display electrode between which the sustaining discharge is generated.

A display frame comprises plural subframes, the gradation display is attained by combining the lit subframes, each subframe comprises the reset period, the address period, and the sustain period, the reset voltage difference applied between the first electrode and the second electrode in the reset period and the address voltage difference applied between the first electrode and the second electrode in the address period can be set arbitrarily for each subframe, and the display frame includes plural subframes in which at least the reset voltage difference or the address voltage difference is different.

摘要: There is provided a plasma display device capable of high luminous efficacy and stable driving for displaying images at various image display load factors. The plasma display device performs the sustain discharge for a light-emission display, and is configured to apply a sustain pulse voltage between a sustain electrode pair in a respective one of the plural discharge cells to generate a sustain discharge in a respective one of the following operating modes selected based upon use of the plasma display device: (a) generating a pre-discharge and then a main discharge; (b) generating a main discharge without a pre-discharge preceding the main discharge; and (c) switching between the mode (a) and the mode (b). The sustain voltage waveforms are used which compensate for an increase in voltage drop due to an increase in discharge current when the image display load factor is excessively increased.
