Abstract:
A powder for a magnetic recording medium comprising a plurality of magnetic particles and a coating covering the surfaces of the magnetic particles. The coating is a residue resulting from the thermal decomposition of an organic material. The powder is manufactured by applying one or more organic materials to the surfaces of a plurality of magnetic particles by dispersing the magnetic particles in a solution containing the organic material. The magnetic particles, having the organic material as a coating, are separated from the solution, and the magnetic particles are heated to a temperature at which the organic material decomposes.
Abstract:
A method for controlling a displacement in the thickness direction of the contraction-type gel actuator having an effect of contraction in the thickness direction by applying a voltage between an anode and a cathode between which a gel which includes a dielectric polymeric material is interposed, which includes performing feedback control of an applied voltage, with a sampled value of a displacement when the applied voltage acts on the contraction-type gel actuator, according to the following equation (1): E=kp(xd−x)+Ed (1) In the equation, xd represents a target displacement of the contraction-type gel actuator; Ed represents an applied voltage with respect to the target displacement xd obtained by the linear approximation of the applied voltage and the displacement from a measured result of the displacement in accordance with the applied voltage of the contraction-type gel actuator; and kp represents a proportional gain.

Abstract:
A method for positioning a magnetic-recording head. The method includes correcting amplitude of each burst signal of a plurality of burst signals read out with the magnetic-recording head from each respective burst pattern of a plurality of burst patterns. In addition, the method includes computing a deviation of the magnetic-recording head from a track based on corrected amplitudes of the plurality of burst signals. Moreover, the method includes positioning the magnetic-recording head on the track based on the deviation of the magnetic-recording head.
Abstract:
A system according to the present invention includes a server and a plurality of apparatuses each incorporating a device. The apparatuses control power supply ON and OFF states of the devices in accordance with an instruction from the server. The server collects pieces of operation state information indicating operation states of the apparatuses from the apparatuses, and groups, based on the collected information, the apparatuses into groups which respectively correspond to different operation states and respectively have different priorities. The server further sends an allowance notification indicating a device power supply allowance to apparatuses which belong to respective groups in descending order of priority taking into consideration a parameter associated with power consumption values of apparatuses to which the device power supply allowance is given. Each apparatus sets the device in a power supply ON state when the allowance notification is received from the server.
Abstract:
A connecting structure of a waveguide converter includes a circuit substrate in which a hollow waveguide that propagates a high frequency signal is formed in a pierced manner; and an antenna substrate that is layered on the circuit substrate, and in which a converter that is arranged at a connecting point with the hollow waveguide and a strip line that extends from the converter and that propagates the high frequency signal are provided. A choke circuit to shield a leak of the high frequency signal is arranged around the hollow waveguide on a surface of the circuit substrate opposing to the antenna substrate so as to surround the hollow waveguide keeping a predetermined interval from the hollow waveguide, and the circuit substrate and the antenna substrate are fixed to each other by adhesive that is arranged at a position outside the choke circuit, between the substrates.
Abstract:
Embodiments in accordance with the present invention help a disk drive to effectively cope with a data address mark detection error. In one embodiment, a data sector is provided with plural data address marks and an read/write (RW) channel reads out the data sector using part of those data address marks. Each divisional section of a split sector has two data address marks and the RW channel uses one of the two data address marks. A data address mark to be used is specified by a register. When an error occurs in detecting a data address mark, its position is stored in a register. Based on the error position, an error recovery processing section stores, in the register, a data address mark to be used in a next retry.
