摘要: A scoring device is described herein that applies a constant force while scoring a piece of material so that there is a consistent score quality (or vent depth) within the scored piece of material. In one embodiment, the piece of material is a bowed shaped glass sheet that is supported by a conformable nosing device which has been configured to have a bowed shape that substantially matches the bowed shape of the glass sheet.

摘要: A sheet of brittle material, such as glass, flat or bowed, is separated along a score line by applying fluid energy (compressed gas or liquid) through a fluid applicator such as a nozzle or directional fluid motivator, into a scored sheet material. A separation time of less than 1 second is possible with smooth edge quality. The brittle material can be in the form of a moving ribbon of glass sheet or a stationary sheet. A load (tension) can be applied transverse to the score line to enhance crack propagation along the score line. A controller controls the fluid pressure, release time and other process parameters for best results, depending on material properties and structure.

摘要: A method for producing low-PMD fiber, in which a glass fiber is drawn from an optical fiber perform by a tractor which pulls such optical fiber from said perform; subsequent to said tractor pulling the fiber is twisted about its axis to increase the magnitude of twist which is imparted to said fiber. The fiber is then wound onto a fiber storage spool such that at least a portion of the twist imparted to said optical fiber is retained while said fiber is wound on said spool.
