    摘要: A tennis racquet includes a hollow tubular frame defining a head portion, a throat, and a shaft portion supporting a handle. The frame has a height, in a direction perpendicular to the stringing plane, that increases uniformly from the bottomn of the throat to the tip of the head portion, so as to increase in stiffness further away from the handle. Such arrangement, in which the frame is most flexible at the top of the handle, reduces the angle of deflection of the stringing plane upon impact and absorbs shock.

    摘要: A switch using an improved method of optically-triggered avalanche breakdown which can produce pulses of 100 picoseconds or longer duration that can deliver five kilovolts into 50 ohms using a standard laser diode. A semiconductor block is provided with contacts on opposing sides across which a high-voltage less than the avalanche breakdown voltage is applied. One of the electrodes is on a mesa on one side of the block. The mesa is then irradiated with electromagnetic radiation. The wavelength of the radiation and the absorption coefficient of the semiconductor block are chosen so that the absorption depth of the majority of the radiation is less than the distance between the contacts. This results in a conduction area where absorption occurs, thus applying most of the high voltage across the distance beyond where the radiation is absorbed. This provides field compression and generates an avalanche breakdown field across the remaining distance of the semiconductor block.

    摘要: A sports racquet, for example for tennis, includes a main frame member defining a head portion, a throat area, and a shaft portion. A throat bridge spans the opposed legs of the main frame member in the throat area to define, with the head portion, an enclosed area for supporting strings. The throat bridge includes a pair of upper and lower bridge sections which extend generally transversely and are spaced apart longitudinally to define a cutout area therebetween. A piece of vibration absorbing material is positioned between the upper and lower bridge sections. The upper and lower bridge sections and vibration absorbing piece have aligned holes for receiving strings. At least some of the longitudinal racquet strings extend through aligned holes through the upper and lower bridge pieces and vibration absorbing material, such that the strings are supported by the lower bridge piece, and are in contact with the vibration absorbing material, which lies between opposite support points of strings to dampen vibration. The defined structure also substantially reduces racquet vibration.

An apparatus mounted to the rear of the plate includes a pivotably mounted carriage with first and second legs extending radially away, at a relative angle, from a pivot point that is mounted between two openings. The first leg has a first striker plate that aligns with the first opening when the carriage is in a first position, and the second leg has a second striker plate that aligns with the second opening when the carriage is in a second position. By striking the first striker with a projectile, such as a bullet, a shooter moves the carriage and places the second striker behind the second hole. By striking the second striker with a projectile, the shooter moves the carriage and places the first striker behind the first hole.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus provide a delayed clock signal to a plurality of serially connected processing elements, such as a bidirectional pipeline processor. The processing elements include forward and reverse processing paths and forward and reverse processing time intervals along the respective paths. The forward and reverse processing time intervals begin when a block of data, such as encryption data, is gated into an individual processing element for processing and terminate when the processed block of data is gated into a subsequent adjacent processing element along the respective forward or reverse processing path. A clock signal distribution circuit provides a clock signal to the plurality of processing elements such that the clock signal arrives at successive processing elements along the clock signal distribution circuit with an increasing amount of delay so that one of the forward or reverse processing time intervals is greater than the other.

    摘要: A data processor and a method for processing data is disclosed. The processor has an input port for receiving packets of data to be processed. A master controller acts to analyse the packets and to provide a header including a list of processes to perform on the packet of data and an ordering thereof. The master controller is programmed with process related data relating to the overall processing function of the processor. The header is appended to the packet of data. The packet with the appended header information is stored within a buffer. A buffer controller acts to determine for each packet stored within the buffer based on the header within the packet a next processor to process the packet. The controller then provides the packet to the determined processor for processing. The processed packet is returned with some indication that the processing is done. For example, the process may be deleted from the list of processes. The buffer controller repeatedly makes a determination of a next process until there is no next process for a packet at which time it is provided to an output port.

    摘要: Vehicle thermal testing method and apparatus is based upon the use of a mobile handset. The handset uses spot infra red thermal sensing to identify thermal imbalance between wheels on opposite sides or the same side of a vehicle. Testing identifies thermal levels resulting from braking by mere application of the handset to wheel nuts after a short brake application and without use of roller test beds or other such equipment. Tires can be similarly tested. The handset can generate test instructions. Repetition of an initial test enables the offset for cooling during the test to be verified. A similar technique applies to tires. The handset may communicate with a base station providing for keyboard input of vehicle data and results printout.
