摘要: A shunt device for creating a shunt in an atrial septum includes magnets coupled to inner loops of a coil comprising at least two inner loops and two outer loops, with a diameter of each of the inner loops being less than a diameter of the outer loops. The coil is made of a shape memory alloy (SMA) and is adapted to exert a compressive force upon layers of tissue caught between the inner loops of the coil. The magnets are adapted to provide additional compressive force to adjacent inner loops of the coil, thereby further causing the coil to cut through the layers of tissue and create a shunt. The diameter of the resultant shunt is less than the diameter of the outer loops, thereby preventing the outer two loops from passing through the created shunt. At least one end of the coil has a connection means for connecting with a delivery device.

摘要: An anastomosis device includes magnets coupled to a wire capable of changing shape from a straight wire into a coil when deployed within a body. The coil exerts compressive force upon layers of tissue caught between loops of the coil. The compressive force is enhanced by attractive forces between magnets coupled with adjacent loops of the coil and causes the coil to cut through the tissue layers, creating an anastomosis. One end of the wire is preferably provided with a connecting member, such as a screw or a nut, for connecting with a delivery device.

摘要: Methods of preventing, treating, and/or controlling a hemorrhage in an organ of a patient include providing electrical stimulation to the arteries, veins, nerves innervating the arteries or veins, or walls of the organ. The apparatus has at least one electrode operably connected to a stimulus generator and placed in electrical communication with an artery, vein, nerve, or organ wall. An electrical stimulus generator causes an electrical stimulus to be administered to the artery, vein, nerve, or wall through the at least one electrode, where the electrical stimulus is effective for preventing, treating, and/or controlling a hemorrhage.

摘要: A method and device for high-pressure, high-temperature steam sterilization of endoscopes includes pressure resistant fittings to attach a steam generator to the ports of an endoscope. The method and device allows for high-pressure, high-temperature steam to circulate throughout the endoscope, exposing various surfaces to steam for sterilization. The method and device also allows for high-pressure, high-temperature steam to circulate selectively through the channels of the endoscope, selectively sterilizing the channels and allowing for use of this method with current high-level disinfection methods. The method and device also allows for movement of the scope elevator channel during the sterilization process, allowing for steam to reach the crevices around the elevator and other moving parts of an endoscope.
