Abstract: A medical system is configured to receive electrical signals responsive to electrical activity in myocardial tissue at respective locations on from each electrode of a first portion of a plurality of electrodes at a distal end of a catheter, determine a geometric center of the first portion of the plurality of electrodes, determine a focus of an arrhythmia, and output an indication of a spatial relationship between the geometric center and the focus. The first portion of the plurality of electrodes includes at least three electrodes, and the plurality of electrodes includes a second portion of electrodes distinct from the first portion and not in contact with myocardial tissue. The focus is determined based at least in part on the electrical signals from the electrodes of the first portion of the plurality of electrodes. An associated method is also described.

Abstract: Provided are a localization system and method useful in the acquisition and analysis of cardiac information. The localization system and method can be used with systems that perform cardiac mapping, diagnosis and treatment of cardiac abnormalities, as examples, and in the retrieval, processing, and interpretation of such types of information. The localization system and method use high impedance inputs, improved isolation, and relatively high drive currents for pairs of electrodes used to establish a multi-axis coordinate system. The axes can be rotated and scaled to improve localization.

Abstract: Described embodiments include an apparatus that includes an expandable structure, configured for insertion into a body of a subject, and a plurality of conducting elements coupled to the expandable structure. Each of the conducting elements comprises a respective coil and has an insulated portion that is electrically insulated from tissue of the subject, and an uninsulated portion configured to exchange signals with the tissue, while in contact with the tissue. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: Apparatus for medical treatment, consisting of a probe and a processor. The probe has an insertion tube having a distal end configured for insertion into a body cavity of a living subject, and a basket assembly having multiple resilient spines coupled to the distal end of the insertion tube and joined together in a predefined form when the basket assembly is unconstrained by external forces. The probe also has a force sensor configured to output an indication of a force exerted on the basket assembly within the body cavity. The processor is configured to receive the indication of the force, to compute a constrained form of the basket assembly, different from the predefined form, responsively to the force, and to render to a display a graphical image representing the constrained form of the basket assembly.

Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for guiding a balloon therapy procedure by generating and outputting a visualization of the volumetric position of a balloon within an anatomical cavity are provided. For example, in one embodiment, a processor circuit is configured to control a plurality of electrodes to detect an electromagnetic field within the anatomical cavity, and determine, based on the detected electromagnetic field and a geometrical parameter associated with the balloon (e.g., size, shape of the balloon), a location of the balloon within the anatomical cavity. The processor circuit outputs a signal representation of a visualization of the balloon to guide placement of the therapeutic balloon. In some embodiments, the visualization is output to a display with a map of the anatomical cavity. The visualization may be updated based on detected movement of the balloon to provide a real time view of the location of the balloon within the anatomical cavity.

Abstract: A catheter insertable into a patient for monitoring pressure having an expandable outer balloon. An expandable inner balloon is positioned within the lumen of the catheter and has having a second outer wall and forms a gas chamber to monitor pressure within the patient. In response to pressure exerted on the outer wall of the outer balloon, fluid within the outer balloon enters an opening in the wall of the catheter lumen to exert a pressure on the outer wall of the expanded inner balloon to deform the inner balloon and compress the gas within the inner balloon. A pressure sensor communicates with the gas containing chamber for measuring pressure based on compression of gas caused by deformation of the expanded inner balloon resulting from deformation of the expanded outer balloon.
