If the E-DCH is established without the legacy DCH, the UE sets a gain factor for a DPCCH related to the DCH to a predetermined constant and calculates gain factors for dedicated physical channels related to the E-DCH using the gain factor of the DPCCH. In another embodiment of the present invention, if the E-DCH is established without the legacy DCH, the RNC sets a gain factor for a DPCCH related to a virtual DCH to a predetermined constant and sends channel configuration information including the gain factor to the UE.

To determine an uplink channel status for using the DCH and E-DCH, a UE determines whether it is in a soft handover (SHO) region referring to active set information received from an RNC. If it is in a non-SHO region, the UE code-multiplexes the DCH and E-DCH. If it is in an SHO region, the UE time-multiplexes the DCH and E-DCH. A Node B analyzes uplink channel status information about the UE received form the RNC. If the UE is in a non-SHO region, the Node B code-demultiplexes the DCH and E-DCH received from the UE. If the UE is in an SHO region, the Node B time-multiplexes the DCH and E-DCH. For the multiplexing of the DCH and E-DCH, common TFS-related information is configured for the DCH and E-DCH.

Disclosed is a method and an apparatus for multiplexing and transmitting/receiving an ACK/NACK resulting from use of a HARQ scheme in an OFDMA system. Frequency and code multiplexing methods are combined with regard to the ACK/NACK to reduce signaling overhead. Frequency multiplexing is conducted by using the MCS level adopted by scheduling channels to improve the ACK/NACK transmitting performance, and code multiplexing is conducted to allocate ACK/NACK resources by using the index of the scheduling channels.

The UE generates a MAC-e PDU including only scheduling information representing a buffer status and a power status in relation to uplink data transmission, and transmits the MAC-e PDU on an E-DCH along with TF information indicating the transmission of the MAC-e PDU including the scheduling information. The Node B receives the scheduling information on the E-DCH and schedules uplink data transmission according to the scheduling information.
