摘要: A concrete composition and method include a portion of fine aggregate bearing a coating of a polymer or an admixture, which may be a continuous coating layer or a layer of powdered, discrete particles embedded in a binder. The polymeric coating may be an admixture in powdered form, a super absorbent polymer (insoluble in water, but absorbing water), or another polymer such as the acrylamides, co-polymers thereof, polyacrylamides, or the like (soluble in water). The coating absorbs water, but particles are too small to form significant voids. Water is absorbed into the concrete mix in far greater proportions (e.g. w/c ratio over 0.5) improving workability, doubling workability time, and improving ultimate compressive stress (strength).

摘要: A pug mill having a housing and a cantilevered shaft extending through the housing includes, in seriatim, a vacuum chamber, a wall, a mixing chamber and a reduction cone. A communication port about the shaft is positioned in the wall between the vacuum chamber and the mixing chamber. Vacuum can be maintained within the mixing chamber by air passing through the port. An auger associated with the shaft forces clay toward the reduction cone. This creates a seal for maintaining vacuum within the mixing chamber and extrudes cylindrical blocks of conditioned clay without significant air bubbles. A deflection plate rotating with the shaft and a spiral element about the shaft keep the communication port clear. The shaft is eccentrically mounted. The dividing wall is removable.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a building material includes the steps of directing molten volcanic magma from an underwater volcanic magna vent to a level above seal level via a tube formed from the magma, directing the molten volcanic magma into a mold located on a floating barge or located on land, and cooling the magma in the mold to form a building material. As an alternative to obtaining the magma from an underwater vent, the molten volcanic magma can be obtained from a vent on land, a lava pool or stream, tapping a lava tube, or the like. The molten volcanic magma can be cast, molded, formed, extruded, flossed, stranded, foamed and used as a heat source to produce harbor works, floors, walls, roofs, pipe, flotation, barges, vessels, insulation, fiber reinforcing and electricity.

摘要: A method for selecting proportions of aggregate for incorporation into concrete comprises several steps. First, a maximum aggregate size for a specific application is determined. A sample of the maximum size aggregate is loose poured into a container. The percentage voids in that sample is then calculated. An amount of smaller sized aggregate equal to approximately the volume of percentage voids calculated earlier is added to the sample until a reduced volume of voids in the mixed sample is achieved. Finally, the amounts of aggregate determined to have the reduced volume of voids in the mixed sample are used in a concrete mixture.

摘要: A system is designed to measure concrete rheological properties which includes a concrete plant, a measuring unit and a mix changing unit. The measuring unit includes a surface in contact with a part of a mass of the concrete mix, a shearing unit for effecting shear deformation in the mass and at least one sensor which senses a measure of the force which is transferred to the surface by the concrete mass as a result of the shear deformation. The rheological profile is produced by: a) sensing at least one measure of the force which is transferred to the surface under at least two different stress states, b) determining i) the sensitivity of each of the at least one measure to a change in stress state and ii) the workability of the mix and c) creating the rheological profile from at least the sensitivity and workability.
