The first stage has a rotatable plasticizing member with kneading blades off-set from one another and located between conveying screw components of said member and cylindrical pins projecting into the working chamber of said first stage. A bearing is provided for the member at its upper end and a cylindrical sleeve surrounds the lower end of the member and can be turned to control the effective size of the connecting passage or to eject material through a second outlet.

    摘要: Apparatus for devolatilizing materials such as solvent containing polymers includes a cylindrical housing having inlet and discharge ends and a screw member rotatably mounted in the housing, operative to work material so as to release contained vaporizable substances from the material. An inlet fitting at the inlet end of the chamber is located opposite a part of the screw member. The housing includes a venting section extending therefrom at the inlet end and the screw member has a screw vent control section extending within the venting section, arranged to convey material toward the discharge end of the housing. A vent pipe is connected to the venting section for conducting away vaporized substances released from the material past the vent control section, and breaker bars cooperate with the vent control section of the screw member to clean from the screw member material tending to cling thereto and to clog the passage between the venting section and the screw vent control section, causing the particles of material to be carried back into the main flow of material from the inlet fitting toward the discharge.

    摘要: A method of increasing the output of a mixing and kneading machine consisting essentially of a casing of fixed length having a screw shaft arranged in the casing and at least four mixing and kneading vanes; the casing being provided with kneading elements equal in number to said vanes and projecting radially inwardly on the inner wall of said casing and means for simultaneously rotating and reciprocating at least once per rotation the screw shaft within said casing; the method steps comprising the steps of doubling or tripling the diameter of the casing while simultaneously increasing the core diameter of said screw by an amount to maintain unchanged the difference between the casing diameter and the diameter of the screw and simultaneously reducing the screw speed about one half or about one third, respectively. In accordance with the method there is provided a number of worm vanes and of kneading elements which is multiplied by about two or about three, respectively, and further increasing the number of axial rotational movements of the screw by at least the same factor as the increase in the screw diameter.

    摘要: In a screw mixer, interrupted feed-compression flights radially extending from the root of the screw along helical lines intermesh with interrupted feed-restraining flights radially extending from the barrel along reverse complementing helical lines with respect to the disposition of the feed-compression flights. As the screw is rotated, intensive shearing of the material being axially forwarded is accomplished in alternation with periods of substantially lower or no shearing. The apparatus is quite suitable for mixing and kneading a wax-like substance into a moving stream of molten synthetic fiber-forming polymer just prior to forming filaments therefrom.

    摘要: A mixing section for an extrusion screw comprises a shaft having at least one set of spaced-apart cuspidate shaft teeth, with the shaft teeth extending radially outwardly from a root of the shaft. Each of the shaft teeth comprises a flank face and a rake face opposite the flank face, with the tooth transitioning between the flank face and the rake face at an outermost cusp. Some embodiments have one or more longitudinally extending, longitudinally spaced series of annular sets of circumferentially spaced shaft teeth. Some embodiments have one or more helically extending series of spaced-apart cuspidate shaft teeth. The mixing section may be received in a mixing section barrel to form a mixing portion of a screw extruder.
