    摘要: Power steering systems and methods to improve efficiency and performance of vehicle power steering systems. In one embodiment, there is provided an engine driven positive displacement hydraulic pump, a rotary valve coupled to a steering shaft for receiving hydraulic fluid under pressure in a rotary valve inlet and providing a differential pressure to a steering rack piston for a steering boost responsive to a torque exerted on the steering shaft, valving coupled between an output of the hydraulic pump, the rotary valve inlet and the hydraulic pump input for controllably coupling the output of the hydraulic pump to the rotary valve inlet or an input of the hydraulic pump, and a controller coupled to valving to maintain a flow rate of hydraulic fluid coupled to the rotary valve responsive to a pressure sensor output. Other embodiments are disclosed.

The power steering system further includes a first pump which is driven by mechanical power from the downstream portion of the driveline, and a second pump which is driven by an electric motor. The first and second pumps are arranged in parallel between the fluid tank and the steering actuator and are capable of supplying fluid from the fluid tank to the steering actuator at the same time.

The system includes a steering assembly adapted for coupling engagement to the wheels for turning the wheels. The system includes a hydraulic pump having a pump input and a pump output and is coupled to the steering assembly and a planetary gear set. The system also includes a steering shaft operatively connected to the hydraulic pump for controlling a direction of the pump output and coupled to the steering assembly. The system further includes a variable-ratio drive mechanism having an electric motor and a controller. The electric motor is coupled to the planetary gear set and the controller communicates with the electric motor for controlling a rotational speed of the planetary gear set to maintain the pump output.

The steering system includes a hydraulic pump for generating hydraulic pressure, a hydraulic fluid reservoir, a hydraulic cylinder, and a control valve arrangement that selectively connects the hydraulic cylinder to the pump and the hydraulic fluid reservoir. The control valve arrangement is characterized during the on-center position by a first and a second chamber of the hydraulic cylinder being in fluid communication with each other but not with the fluid reservoir. In one embodiment, the steering system has a steering sensor, a control box, and two pressure accumulators for providing at least two levels of steering assist.
