摘要: The invention relates to a cargo container storage and retrieval system and method. One embodiment of a system according to the present invention includes a vessel having cargo hold with a plurality of bulkheads disposed along a width of the cargo hold to define a plurality of adjacent cells along a length of the cargo hold. The cargo hold is also equipped with a plurality of tiers along a depth of the cargo hold. The vessel also includes a deck having a plurality of hatch openings that are used to gain access to the cargo hold. In addition, the vessel includes a storage and retrieval system having a plurality of sets of parallel spaced tracks and a plurality of chassis seats disposed within each set of parallel space tracks. Each track of each set of parallel spaced tracks is mounted to a surface of a bulkhead of opposing bulkheads so that one set of parallel space tracks is disposed within each cell along the length of the cargo hold and so that a plurality of sets of parallel spaced tracks are disposed within each tier of the cargo. Each chassis seat has corresponding wheels that move along a corresponding set of parallel spaced tracks to provide a plurality of chassis seat along the width of the cargo hold for each set of parallel spaced tracks within each tier. Each chassis seat is equipped to hold a standardized cargo container. In addition, each set of parallel spaced tracks has an empty space of one chassis seat width. With this arrangement, at least one chassis seat may be moved along the corresponding set of parallel spaced tracks so that a standardized cargo container may be stored at or retrieved from any chassis seat position within any tier of the cargo hold of the vessel.

摘要: An open cellular containership includes a hull having side walls and load bearing decks with transverse bulkheads defining a plurality of cargo holds therein each provided with elements defining adjacent cells with each hold adapted to receive a plurality of tiers of ISO shipping containers. The plurality of tiers of containers are stacked within the hold cells until the top surface of the uppermost containers are disposed adjacent the strength decks atop the side walls, without any hatch covers being mounted thereatop. This hatchcoverless containership construction is possible due to the formation of the freeboard of the ship's hull, with this freeboard amounting to no less than 2.5% of the ship's length, as measured between the respective perpendiculars extending through the ship's rudder post and bow. This is noticeably distinct from the freeboard of conventional hatch cover containerships, which ranges between 0.8% to 1.5% of length. Any sea spray and rain that does enter the holds is readily evacuated by drain and pumping devices communicating with each hold.

摘要: A container carrier vessel has a wide, short bow section, a wide and shorter stern section, and an elongated intermediate multi-mode cargo container carrier section extending between the bow section and the stern section. An inverted U-shaped central section divides the long intermediate cargo section and supports a deck for mounting of a track and crane to handle casual cargo loading and unloading. The U-shaped section has a tunnel space for carrying communications between the bow and stern sections, and has provision for mounting a personnel mover. The stern section has a retractable pilot house mounted atop a telescoping mast for maintaining high elevation viewing of surrounding conditions and retracting to avoid overhead obstructions such as bridges. The vessel has a welded steel plate fore and welded side bulkheads and stern bulkheads, and sloped prow. The propulsion system mounted in the after section drives the propellers, and bow and stern thrusters are provided with pumps and controls in the bow and stern sections.

摘要: A cargo compartment of a cargo carrier is bounded by a pair of generally vertical walls which extend in the longitudinal direction of the cargo carrier. At least two pairs of confining members are pivotally mounted on these walls for movement between operative and inoperative positions. In the inoperative positions, the confining members are generally parallel to the walls of the cargo compartment and the latter is capable of accommodating bulk goods. In the operative positions, the cargo compartment is capable of receiving containers and the confining members of each pair extend generally normal to the longitudinal axis of the cargo carrier and are in alignment with one another. The two pairs of confining members may be spaced from one another by several container lengths in their operative positions. In such an event, dividers which extend parallel to the confining members may be arranged between the latter in such a manner that the distance between each pair of confining members and the neighboring divider, as well as the distance between neighboring dividers, equals one container length. The dividers are releasably secured to the walls of the cargo compartment.

摘要: A method and an ocean-going vessel are disclosed for more effectively incinerating hazardous liquid wastes at sea. Intermodal shipping tank containers are filled at waste generation sites; transported to dockside and loaded above decks on an incinerator ship; taken out to sea and incinerated in horizontal, liquid burning type incinerators so that the effluents emerge horizontally. Wastes flow by gravity from containers into staging sumps located below decks, and then pumped to incinerator. Pollution abatement tanks, also below decks, collect spilled waste from containers, as well as overflow from staging sumps. Material collected in abatement tanks is pumped into staging sump, and pumped to incinerator. Fuel oil may be introduced into sumps for fueling incinerators to maintain incinerator operation when there is insufficient supply of waste. Effluents are sea-water scrubbed for cooling to eliminate thermal lift and carried promptly into sea.

摘要: The stack of containers, assembled from individual containers in a ship's hold, must, in order to secure the loading position, be connected to the ship's structure by suitable stowing struts, which must be amenable to length-alteration in order to permit adaptation to a prevailing loading position. A stowing strut is proposed for this purpose, this strut being provided, according to the invention, with an adjustable coupling (11). This coupling comprises two coupling-halves (coupling plate 23, cone-piece 24) and possesses, in each case, tooth-systems (28, 31) which enable a positively-locked connection to be produced between the coupling plate (23) and the cone-piece (24), in various relative positions of these parts.
