The implement (102) is connected to a work machine (104) and is movable between first and second implement positions in response to operation of a hydraulic actuator (106). The apparatus (100) includes a joystick (306) with first and second positions and a neutral position. The joystick (306) is normally biased in a neutral position and is movable between the first and second positions. The apparatus senses the position of the joystick (306) and responsively generates a joystick position signal. The joystick (306) maintained at the first and second detent positions in response to manual movement of the joystick to the respective first and second detent positions. The joystick (306) is released from the detent position in response to receiving a release detent signal. The apparatus (100) senses the position of the work implement (102) with respect to the work machine (104). The apparatus (100) provides hydraulic fluid flow to the hydraulic actuator (106) in response to a magnitude of an electrical valve signal. The apparatus (100) receives the joystick position signal, responsively delivers the electrical valve signal. The magnitude of the electrical valve signal is proportional to the joystick position signal. The apparatus (100) compares the implement position signal with a first detent position and a second detent position and responsively produces the release detent signal.

In one aspect of the present invention, an automatic control system for loading a bucket of a wheel loader is disclosed. The system includes a pressure sensor that produces pressure signals in response to the hydraulic pressures associated with one of the lift and tilt cylinders. A microprocessor receives the pressure signals, compares at least one of the pressure signals to a predetermined one of a plurality of pressure setpoints, and produces lift and tilt command signals in response to the pressure comparisons. Finally, an electrohydraulic system receives the lift command signals and controllably extends the lift cylinder to raise the bucket through the material, and receives the tilt command signals and controllably extends the tilt cylinder to tilt the bucket to capture the material.

There is disclosed a control circuit for actuating a hydraulically actuated boom and a hydraulically actuated implement associated with an earth-working mechanism whereby the actuation of the boom and the implement may be initiated solely by the closing of an electrical switch thereby enabling the operator of the earth-working mechanism to retain both hands on the steering wheel except for the short period of time when the switch is actuated. The control circuit comprises a first electrical circuit for automatically raising the boom and the implement, a second electrical circuit for automatically and continuously orienting the implement in a predetermined relationship with the boom, a third electrical circuit for automatically rotating the implement from a first position to a second position and wherein the third electrical circuit includes means for maintaining the implement in the second position for a preselected period of time and then automatically returning the implement to the first position, a fourth electrical circuit for lowering the boom and the implement, a fifth electrical circuit for automatically orienting the implement in a preselected angular relationship with the surface upon which the earthworking mechanism is located, and a sixth electrical circuit adapted to enable the boom and the implement to follow the surface upon which the earth-working mechanism is located. Each of these electrical circuits may be enabled in a preselected sequence by merely closing a switch which is located within easy access to the operator of the earth-working mechanism and in addition, a manual override control is available so that the operator may manually operate the boom and the implement in a conventional manner.

A work vehicle includes a vehicle body, a work implement including an attachment, an operating device and a controller. The operating device can be operated to a dump side and a tilt side to cause the attachment to dump and tilt. The controller executes an automatic drive control in which the attachment is caused to dump as far as a predetermined dumping position when the operating device is operated by a first dump operation amount or greater to the dump side, or to tilt as far as a predetermined tilt position when the operating device is operated by a first tilt operation amount or greater to the tilt side. The controller disables the automatic drive control when a switching time period required for the operating device to be switched between the tilt and dump sides is at least a predetermined disabling time period.
