    Abstract: A drive mechanism is provided for a door operator, comprising a drive member and a driven member. The drive member includes a protrusion, the edges of the protrusion forming first and second driving surfaces which define a free space of at least about 90° there between. The driven member includes a protrusion, the sides of the protrusion form a first and a second driven surface, respectively. The drive member is adapted to be operably connected to between a motor assembly for rotating the drive member and a door closer assembly rotating with the driven member. The drive member and the driven member are disposed for relative rotation in substantially the same plane such that the driven member protrusion moves in the free space defined by the driving surfaces of the drive member protrusion. Rotation of the drive member from a first angular orientation to a second angular orientation in a direction toward an adjacent driven surface causes rotation of the driven member for powered opening of the door from the closed position to the open position. The driven member protrusion moves in the free space without engaging the protrusion surfaces when the door is opened manually from the closed position and allowed to close.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to drive assemblies, and particularly to drive belt and drive chain assemblies for operation of doors, gates or barriers. The invention provides a connection for a flexible toothed belt or similar, including a body having an internal recess with a shaping complementary to that of the toothed belt, configured to allow an end portion of the belt to be engaged therein in a direction transverse to the belt longitudinal direction, so to retain the belt against disengagement in the longitudinal direction. Further, the invention provides a drive assembly including a rail or track, a trolley for connection to the door, gate or barrier, the trolley mountable to run along the rail or track, a longitudinal drive means comprising a chain or belt, connectable in a closed loop arrangement around or within the rail or track, the trolley provided with an engagement means for selective engagement between the trolley and the longitudinal drive means, whereby the engagement means includes an engagement member arranged for selective movement in a direction substantially transverse to the longitudinal direction of the longitudinal drive means and in a direction less than 45° from the plane of the loop of the longitudinal drive means. Also provided is a drive assembly including a partially enclosed track, a trolley for connection to the door, gate or barrier, the trolley mountable to run within the partially enclosed track, a longitudinal drive means, such as a chain or belt, connectable in a closed loop arrangement within the partially enclosed track and engageable with the trolley, the trolley provided with wheels adapted to run within and supported by the partially enclosed track.

    Abstract: A security gate comprises a pair of posts fixed adjacent opposing sides of a gate opening. The gate includes a pair of first gate panels pivotally mounted on the posts and second gate panels pivotally coupled to the outer ends of the first gate panels respectively so that the second gate panels meet one another in the closed position of the gate. Each first gate panel and the respective second gate panel pivotally coupled thereto are moveable together between an open position folded adjacent the respective post and a closed position spanning across the gate opening. A drive linkage is coupled between each post and the inner end of the respective first gate panel pivotally coupled thereto to drive pivotal movement of the first gate panel between the open and closed position. A guide mechanism is coupled between the fixed post and the inner end of the second gate panel for guiding pivotal movement of the second gate panel between the open and closed positions responsive to movement of the first gate panel.

    Abstract: A door operator for a reversibly operable door, such as a garage door includes a frame, a motor on the frame, a flexible drive member connected to the motor, and a carriage is mounted for movement along the frame. The carriage moves generally parallel to a portion of the frame and is attached to the door to open and close the door by movement of the carriage along the frame. The carriage can be selectively engaged and disengaged from the flexible drive member using an actuating member extending from the carriage. The carriage and the flexible drive member are engaged and disengaged upon successive motions of the actuating member in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of travel of the carriage. The same motion of the actuating member is used to both engage and disengage the mechanism, with successive actions performing the engagement and the disengagement, so that it is not necessary for the user to memorize a complicated engagement or disengagement procedure in order to perform the operation. The mechanism may include a lever bar that provides leverage to the engaging and disengaging action, so that the force applied by the user to the vertically extending actuating member is increased to overcome any resistance resulting from the load on the carriage. The carriage may be adapted for use with an enclosed rail or frame extension and may be comprised of multiple parts that may be disassembled, permitting the carriage to be removed from the frame at any location and eliminating the need for removal of the carriage only through the end of the frame.
